hour three
More with Mark Danner, staff writer for The New Yorker.
What happens when a bunch of overzealous security lunatics find themselves in charge of thousands of people? The DNC. We're pretty much in security lockdown and they're about to empty the building, except for the floor. Welcome to Bush World.
But still, why does Terry McAuliffe have a job?
Help use technology for change with Pluggedin.org.
And watch Sam and Janeane live at this place.

TRIBAL... NOT STUPID
Relevant to the "July Surprise" planned announcement of terrorist capture by Pakistan. I can't find this online, so I'm just going to post an exerpt that's sorta funny. The quote is from Khalid Wazir, who is the Khan Bahadur (Brave Leader) or Tribal Chief of the Waziristan area of Northern Pakistan along the border of Afghanistan... supposedly where Osama Bin Laden is hiding.
exerpt from:
NEW YORKER July 26, 2004
IN THE HIDING ZONE
Eliza Griswold
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not long ago, an international news organization called Khalid to ask if it was true that Osama Bin Laden was hiding in Waziristan. "How was I supposed to know?" he asked me afterward. "If he's here, why don't they go catch him? I have nothing to do with it." He went on, "I am the Khan Bahadur. I am the chief. I know where there are terrorists in Waziristan? George Bush was elected by the state of Florida. His brother is governor of Florida. George Bush knew there were terrorists training in Florida?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I wish I could find the entire article to link. If you've a chance to grab that issue of the New Yorker... its worth the price. Once again, we have underestimated the intelligence of people because they live in a so called "primitive" area. Does Khalid Wazir sound stupid or uninformed to you?
The Bush administration and the press should think long and hard about spinning tales about these Pakistani mountains along the Afghanistan border. The Waziri people have a fine leader who can throw it right back in their faces. Khalid Wazir says his people are not harboring terrorists. I believe him. My guess is that they caught this latest "high level" Al Qaeda guy in Islamabad... where they catch all of them.

Islamabad, Pakistan, July 30 -- Pakistan has captured Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani, an accused al Qaeda terrorist who is sought by the United States as a suspect in the 1998 bombings of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, officials said Friday."
Remember folks, THEY politicized the War on Terror. No symbol or serious endeavor off limits for them to use. What's next--Bush and Rumsfeld doing a photo-op of a campfire 'smores roast over the fire of the Eternal Flame at JFK's grave? Disgusting...

"But Moore has a double standard about being duped about weapons of mass destruction. He defends John Kerry's vote to invade Iraq because the Democratic about-to-be-nominee like so many other Americans believed in the Commander-in-Chief. The press doesn't get that same pathetic pass."
this journalist actually believes that the press have no greater obligation than congress to investigate the administration's claims. legislators get info and vote on it. john kerry doesn't have a network of contacts, investigators in the field, and a job that really doesn't, or shouldn't, entail anything BUT digging into the administration's claims to see how the facts check out. I can't believe he would say something so obviously dumb.

Might I suggest to the tech that the frame rate be stepped down in order to keep the resolution quality high, and consistent.

Hannity.com has a poll asking if Janeane was treated fairly by Sean in his interview.
Everyone vote no so Sam can make $60 from Hannity.
I gave it my best shot, but it's still running 92 to 8 in Hannity's favor. My best suggestion, Sam: Wrap a five-spot around a wad of those old $3 Clinton novelty bills.

Capped by Kerry's primetime speech to accept the Democratic Party's nomination, Thursday's program will include appearances and remarks by Kerry's Swift Boat crewmates, the Kerry-Edwards campaign announced in a press release this morning.
But a group of veterans will soon try to convince a nation how what is presented on the convention stage tonight -- may not be the full story: "Only 2 of John Kerry's 23 fellow Swift boat commanders from Coastal Division 11 support his candidacy today."

ORT CAMPBELL, Ky., July 29 - A decorated Army sergeant who commandeered a sport utility vehicle from a civilian in northern Iraq last year was found guilty of armed robbery by a military jury on Thursday.
Though Sergeant Williams had faced up to 15 years in prison, the jury sentenced him to no prison time, while reducing his rank to private and giving him a bad-conduct discharge.

The problem is when Hannity asks a question like "How can you vote for Kerry when he voted to attack Iraq?"
Well this is a complex question of several levels.
1) Kerry didn't vote to attack Iraq he voted to give Bush certain powers under certain conditions.
2) Who else are you going to vote for? Bush? Nader?
A dozen more reasons...
Anyway before Janeane gets 5 words out, actually when Hannity can see she can answer the questions, he jumps on her with another completely different question. He keeps doing this hoping to find something she doesn't have an answer for, a weakness. Something he can pound.
This is being fair.

What would have been fair would be to do what Moore did.
Hannity asks Jeanane one question
She answers
She asks Hannity a question
He answers
Rinse and repeat

==========
Also an excellent observation.
So many possibilities, so few agents in the field.

Indonesia is not as open land as you think. They have long experiance with Muslim separatist. Also because of the structure of several of islamic organisations, It is almost impossible for people like Osama to show up at random mosque without getting noticed. If he hides there, he better not making any contact with anybody. There were at least about a dozen foreigns sheiks who gets kickes out during the last election. (including western reporters of course.)
Osama might as well hides in Phillipines islands, since nobody controls those area and it's close to international trading route.

The choice is crystal clear! The tyranny and fear of the Republican Party vs. the freedom and hope of the Democratic Party.

The New Republic called it--the "July Suprise".
From the TNR web site...
[Editor's Note: This afternoon, Pakistan's interior minister, Faisal Saleh Hayyat, announced that Pakistani forces had captured Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani, a Tanzanian Al Qaeda operative wanted in connection with the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. The timing of this announcement should be of particular interest to readers of The New Republic. Earlier this month, John B. Judis, Spencer Ackerman, and Massoud Ansari broke the story of how the Bush administration was pressuring Pakistani officials to apprehend high-value targets (HVTs) in time for the November elections--and in particular, to coincide with the Democratic National Convention. Although the capture took place in central Pakistan "a few days back," the announcement came just hours before John Kerry will give his acceptance speech in Boston.]
Way to go guys, John Judis, Spencer Ackerman, and Massoud Ansari--get 'ya a case of beer for this one.
