===CONVENTION COMMENT==
THIRD POSTING
Sean Hannity and other Right Wing Media have been hijacking air america's airwaves during the convention. He hijacked Franken earlier. Do NOT entertain him...do NOT share your airwaves... will YOU be at the RNC convention on HIS airtime...
They have 450 stations. We have ONE!
What you perceive as being nice they perceive as weakness...
I cannot believe you have Sean Hannity on air...

The reason vouchers won't work is because poor people still won't be able to use them. It doesn't matter how much the voucher's for, but unless it's for 100%, poor people won't be able to use them. But they'll still pay for them with their taxes. It's bullshit, poor people helping rich people send their kids to private school!

and innefficiency from beaurcracy.
"The problem with public: inneficiency from bureaucracy."
The problem is even when you go to privatization you still need a beauracrocy to disburse the funds...privatization does not lessen bureaucracy

My AAR feed went down in the Obama speech, but I got it via NPR. (Hopefully, my problems are due to many people listening tonight.) He is simply astonishing. I think the nation is seeing why the Illinois Republican party can't decide who to run, if anyone, against him. I think Obama came across as a man whom I could trust with my life -- or any number of lives.
Ron Reagan Jr. is amazing as well. Why he did not officially break with his father's party, his criticism was sharp and accurate. I think it was very courageous of him to address stem cell research. Many of our allies are going ahead with stem cell research. We can benefit as well, and work with them on searching for cures for horrific diseases. (Think of an equivalent of the Manhattan project for fighting disease.)

Disagree. In NYC, Hannity's station has pretty much had the market cornered with regard to talk radio. People listen to station not so much because they agree with their viewpoint, but for lack of an another option.
Janeane can remind WABC listeners that the option exists.

What's not reported is that Theresa Heinz Kerry is a "Skull and Bones" girl. Her first husband was Skull and bones and her current husband is Skull and Bones and her son who is introducing her tonight is a Yale grad. (Don't know if he's Skull and Bones but it wouldn't surprise me.)
For those who like to look behind the curtain:
John Forbes Kerry, "an heir to the China (opium) trading Forbes family," is one of a relative handful belonging to Skull & Bones. Before the 1980 election, Senator John Heinz III (Skull & Bones) had flown to Europe with "Poppy" Bush. It was part of a secret deal called "The October Surprise" which promoted a treasonous plan to thwart Jimmy Carter's re-election hopes. ("In a remarkable coincidence, Senators John Heinz and John Tower were killed in separate plane crashes within hours of each other, in April 1991." [1]) According to an article by Sherman Skolnick and Lenny Bloom ("Madrid? Rule By Crowned Heads By Fear and Terror," March 14, 2004), John Forbes Kerry reportedly was also aboard the October Surprise secret flight. In their report, Skolnick and Bloom reported, in part, as follows: "The secret air flight to the Paris suburb, October, 1980, was piloted by Office of Naval Intelligence Commander Gunther Russbacher. His signed, detailed statement shows that among the top dignitaries onboard were former Director of Central Intelligence, George Herbert Walker Bush, running for Vice President; U.S. SENATOR JOHN F. KERRY (Democrat, Mass.), an apparent American CIA agent provocateur previously posing as a peacenik..." [Emphasis in original]) "Senator Heinz, according to author Sora (op. cit.) had been married to Teresa Simoes Ferreira (Council on Foreign Relations). In his book, Sora reports that Ms. Ferreira, after the suspicious death of her husband, married John Forbes Kerry. With her came an inherited Heinz Ketchup fortune of $860 million.

Big John, Big Bad John
Every mornin' on the Hill you could see him arrive
Standing six-foot-four, weighing one-twenty-five
Kinda' scrawny at the shoulders and lacking a spine
And when he spoke at all, it was mainly to whine
(Big John, Big John) Big Bad John
Nobody seems to know what's in John's soul
His 'beliefs' are based on the latest poll
'Though he'll say what it takes to get your votes
It's the leftist agenda that he really promotes - Big John.
Some one said he came from Boston town
Where he joined the Navy and gained renown
'Earning' three purple hearts and one bronze star
The home folks said, "This boy will go far"
(Big John, Big John) Big Bad John (Big John)
Then came a day back in '71
When he renounced all the medals that he had won
Then turned against his country and his Navy friends
And sold them out for his own selfish ends? (Big John)
He appeared before Congress and on left-wing talk shows
Giving aid and comfort to America's foes
It was clear to see whose side he was on
Some say he helped cause the fall of Saigon - Big John
(Big John, Big John) Big Bad John (Big John)
He claims to be for the working poor
Yet he owns 5 mansions from shore to shore
He never had to work a day in his life
'cause he learned it helps to have a wealthy wife! - Big John
Now he wants to be our next President
and Commander-in-chief of those he resents
The American soldiers who fight and die
To give him the freedom to tell us his lies
(Big John, Big John) Big Bad John (Big John)
Thousands have sacrificed their young lives
To help ensure that our nation survives
A vote for Kerry is a slap in the face
To all the brave soldiers that he's disgraced
FADE (Big John, Big John) Big Bad John (Big John)

Oops, screwed up my quote attribution:
Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis once wrote that the United States “can have concentrated wealth in the hands of a few or can have democracy,” but “we cannot have both.”
Here, by contrast, is the gospel according to Holmes (Oliver Wendell, not John):
Oliver Wendell Holmes wrote that “taxes are the price we pay for civilization.” If that is true, then the estate tax, as the authors conclude, is “fair tribute to a society that has created the conditions that enable some individuals to become wealthy and prosperous.”
http://www.americamagazine.org/BookReview.cfm?textID=2967&articletypeid=31&issueID=433
BTW, Adam Smith supported the progressive income tax: “The rich should contribute to the public expense not only in proportion to their revenue,” Smith believed, “but something more than in that proportion.”
Funny the libertarians don't mention that.

Posted by: at July 27, 2004 09:59 PM
Do my homework?!! Well, anonymous, I've done graduate research on it, I was a medical researcher at McGill, two of my best friends are doctors, and I have been seriously ill in both countries. I could go on and on. And I know doctors in New York who have worked in both countries.
Do you realize that the U.S. "healthcare" industry spends millions on lobbying and propoganda to make Americans believe that the Canadian system is bad?
More medical research, per capita, comes out of Canada than the U.S. How about YOU do some research. True, there are wealthy Canadians who will come to the U.S. for treatment, but that's because they watch American "news", and believe the lies, or believe that the most expensive means the best. There is no medical treatment in the States that isn't available in Canada. There are underserved areas, small, remote communities, but that's the same anywhere. And yes, many hospitals could use more equipment; the new federal budget will help. As would getting rid of right-wing provincial governments that take federal money for health care and spend it on something else.
When I was a kid in Canada, I thought that you had to go to the Mayo Clinic if you got really sick, because that's where people on TV went.

Hertzberg and JG are wrong about Bush. George W. is quite sincere. He actually believes the things he says because he is a schizophrenic. A schizophrenic can pass a lie detector exam. A schizophrenic live in a world of the imagination so real to them that it dwarfs the reality of the actual world. Schizophrenia is common in our species. In canada we never had slavery,
in canada we never had jim crow
i am not aware that we ever linch "negroes".
What make's the united states the greatest country in the world and americans the greatest people in the world, is the fact that you have had a horrible history of the most ugliest kind, yet in the U.S. ,unlike in canada you have a a young black man like Obama whom everyone sees as presidential material.A black women like oprah winfry who is a not only a multi-millionaire but a tv star, unlike here in canada you have a collin powell or condilista rice whom are blacks and hi-goverment officials, unlike in canada you have elected black mayors in your major cities such as new york and LA and you even had unlike canada the "cheecks"to elect a black governor in virginia whom got 41%of the WHITE MALE VOTE.Unlike canada even under the reagan years the largest growing segment of the middle class was and is still is compose of black people, and unlike canada or anywhere else in this world if the black population was to be a country it would be the 10th richest in the world. When you think of you where have been as a nation and all the horrible things that you have done in the past to blacks and people of colour in general,to see where you are now as a people and society ,you can understand why as a canadian i consider you the american people and the united states of america to be indeed the greatest nation and people on earth.

I have heard from psychologists that up to 20 percent of homo sapiens suffer from it to one degree or another.
Posted by: Farmer at July 27, 2004 10:40 PM
************
You are using the wrong terminology. You mean "sociopathic" not "schizophrenic."
Schizophrenic means having hallucinations or delusions that make a person unable to function in normal society. You don't mistake a schizophrenic for a person with conventional thought processes.
Sociopathic is the lack of a conscience and which can beat the lie detector and such. A sociopath is often confused with a person with conventional thought processes until you can add up the lies and falsehoods to get the real picture that the person has only been telling you the truth as far as it would fit the picture and that everything else is made up.

When they ask why don't you want poor kids to have the same opportunity that chelsea has, you ask why don't they. Learn hostile inquiry. They are not thoughtful. They did all their thinking years ago. They are pigs. And to communicate with them you must use their language, grunts and squeels

Point taken, Nobody, but Canada's "First Nations" population has done considerably better than Native Americans in the U.S. First, many more survived - there was no genocide. They get free housing, university, and there are huge land transfers that are giving them back their land. The social problems are the worst: alcoholism, racism, high rates of high-school dropouts. But there's been a lot of progress. It will take a lot to try to make reparations. Native Americans are following the progress of the land transfers in Canada, and it makes the U.S. government very nervous.

She should talk about the issues, the candiates, the country. Not about herself. Air America Radio was not set up for the purpose of giving Ms. Garofalo a platform to talk about herself, dumbfuck.
Better yet, she should shut up a little bit and let the other person talk (unless the other person is Hannity, in which case she should just go directly to a commercial break).
The thing is, Janeane just isn't very interesting. She basically has three litle raps which she repeats over and over again, night after night. Let someone else speak, please.

I do not agree with the analysis of the media expressed by Rick Hershberg. The current status of the media is unconstitutional. The 1996 Communications Act is indeed an infringement of free speech. Perhaps Rick has prospered from this corporate controlled media. There is something we can do. As citizens we can protest the corporate controlled media. We can demand that our constitutional right to a free press be restored. There are several ways this can be done. Shall we try?

Sorry Sam, you are just passing on the phony balony about the war powers vote. That vote was congress abdicating its role in declaring war. That vote gave Bush the authority to start the war without coming back to congress.

I'm so happy that my next US Senator nailed his first shot on the national stage. When I first heard him speak a few years back, I thought he was destined for greatness. Unfortunately, when he lost to US Rep. Bobby Rush, I thought he might not get another big chance. He rebounded!
I wanted Jack Ryan to stay in the race so Obama's victory would be assured. Now, it looks like the Republicans are having trouble fielding a serious candidate. After tonight's keynote speech (and without an opponent in Illinois), maybe just maybe Obama can be deployed to help win congressional seats throughout the Midwest.
... and I just hope if the Democrats win control of the Senate, our other Senator (Dick Durbin) starts to get some of the national recognition he deserves. He consistently puts himself out at the forefront of liberal issues. How lucky we are with these two great leaders!
OBAMA!!!

that URL isn't for a webpage, that is why it doesn't open a webpage. It opens Windows Media Player - IF you have Windows Media Player installed.
And the link IS at the top of the page. Where it says:
"Want to see Sam and Janeane live right now? Click on this. If it doesn't open, use Windows Media Player. It will only be able to handle the first lucky several hundred users. (There's a 13 second or so delay.)"
The word "this" in "Click on this" is the link.

the point is that on the day after the election whe need to flood the White House reminding Kerrry that the vote was not a mandate for him but a referendum against Bush. Progressives need to tell Kerry that he will be a one-term president if he doesn't get the message from voters that they don't want war mongers.

Wrong, Sam!
John Kerry came out against the federal amendment, but his endorsement of the MA state amendment is responsible for getting fence sitters in the state legislature to vote in favor of the state amendment (which is far worse than Bush's endorsement of the FMA since MA is the ONLY state which has legal same-sex marriages).
Kerry and Bush are IDENTICAL in this area.

No no no to Hannity on because being AAR needs LESS neocon ideology on NOT MORE. IS this a cheap and cynical ratings grab or what???
He's a sick individual we all know that and there is no need to expose him that would be redundant and AAR are only making yourselves look more stupid by sinking to his level and taking away the cache that exists with AAR right now.
Ugh please don't have that scumbag on. You'll have to fumigate the studio afterwards as well think of the fumigation costs if nothing else. Not good for yuor health I would think.
Bootom line Hannity doesn't deserve to be on AAR it's a priveledge NOT a right to be on you know!!! Again that cache thing....
If you are determined to have him on then my advice to you would be to have him lick Janeane's boots humliate that scum like Howard Stern does of his guests (only we do it for the right wingers only!!!) if he so desperately wants to be on. And remember of you have Hannity on he will find a way later on to forever embarrass you somehow for that day he was on. So be prepared and ready for that scumbag opportunist. Soros' money is paying for MoveOn.Org's barbed anti-Bush ads. And it is spurring America Coming Together's grass-roots organizing activity in 17 battleground states.
Even now, Soros is considering a major investment in Air America Radio, the liberal answer to conservative radio talkers such as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. He likes the programming and at former President Bill Clinton's urging is weighing a bailout of the financially strapped upstart.
"I am looking at it, but I can't say where we are on it," Soros said. "People have begged me to buy media, but I have resisted it."

You are using the wrong terminology. You mean "sociopathic" not "schizophrenic."
Schizophrenic means having hallucinations or delusions that make a person unable to function in normal society. You don't mistake a schizophrenic for a person with conventional thought processes.
---------
No, you are wrong. I meant schizophrenic. That is a broad term actually. We had an incident I covered in the newspaper (I am a newspaper reporter) of a young man who had a full schizophrenic episode and held several people hostage at a college. He got himself killed. Tragic incident. I spoke at length to a psychologist and studied schizophrenia as a result of that. It is where the imagination becomes more real than the world around you.
But we can cut to the chase and simply say the leader of the free world is a nut.

Are you one of the Americans who mistakenly believe that John Kerry is a Irish Bostonian?
After listening to Obama's pride in his mongrel roots, I wonder if Kerry will tell this interesting story about his roots. (Don't get bent on my using the word "mongrel." I identify myself as a mongrel, and that is one reason I like Obama and feel he can speak for all of us mongrels.)
And isn't it interesting that John Kerry didn't know his own grandfather's family history?
From Reform Judaism Online:
Seven years ago, U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright was confronted with a genealogical discovery: her Czech émigré parents were Jewish. They'd hidden their Jewish roots during and after the Second World War. More than a dozen of her Jewish relatives, including three grandparents, an aunt, an uncle and a first cousin, had all perished in the Nazi concentration camps. Albright has been reluctant to comment on the discovery, telling the Washington Post, "I have to look into this myself...it's a very personal matter."
A similar revelation occurred on February 2, 2003, when the Boston Globe reported that Massachusetts senator and Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, thought by many to be a "Boston Brahmin" of Irish-Catholic ancestry, was the grandson of Czech immigrants who also had concealed their Jewish heritage.
continued......
http://www.uahc.org/rjmag/03fall/kerry.shtml
From The Telegraph Online:
In a remote corner of the Czech Republic, the 2,400 residents of a down-at-heel former gold mining town have developed a sudden passion for American presidential politics.
For despite John Kerry's reputation as a privileged "Boston Brahmin", the Democrats' presidential frontrunner recently learned that his paternal grandfather hailed from Horni Benesov, near the Polish border.
Even more surprising for the Massachusetts senator, who presumed he was of Irish Catholic stock, was the discovery that his grandfather was an ethnic German Jew who had changed his name from Fritz Kohn to Frederick Kerry.

U.S. expatriates get out the vote
Tue Jul 27, 6:40 AM ET Add Top Stories - USATODAY.com to My Yahoo!
By Ellen Hale, USA TODAY
As moviegoers filter out of the Screen on the Hill theater in this lush residential area of London, Judy Miara launches her pitch: "Are there any Americans here? Are you registered to vote?"
Of the dozens who have just seen Michael Moore's record-setting anti-war film, Fahrenheit 9/11, three approach. Miara explains the absentee-voting process, helps them fill out the registration form and even provides the stamp.
"We got an Ohio and a Texas," says Miara, a banker who has lived in London for nine years. "That's really good."
If passions over the U.S. presidential race are at boiling point back home, they may be even higher abroad, where many Americans say they experience firsthand the ramifications of President Bush (news - web sites)'s foreign policies. Whether they approve of those policies or not, by all accounts, U.S. citizens overseas are registering in greater numbers than ever before, hoping their vote can make a difference in an election both sides say may be the most crucial in modern American history.
More than three months before the elections, Democrats Abroad, the group for which Miara works, claims it has helped register 8,000 American voters in Britain. In the 2000 contest between Bush and Al Gore (news - web sites) and Bush, the group registered fewer than 7,000 U.S. citizens. Worldwide, it is setting similar records, according to Frances Deak, 68, who has lived in Britain for 23 years and is in charge of the organization's global efforts. Republicans also expect to see an increase in interest among expatriate voters.
"They're lucky we're not a state," Deak says of Americans living outside the USA. If they were, expatriate Americans could make up the 13th-largest. While the number of U.S. citizens living abroad is not officially tallied, estimates range from 3 million to 7 million. It is believed that about 250,000 live in Britain. That makes the United Kingdom third to Mexico and Canada as the foreign country most populated by Americans.

Yeah I agree, Theresa. As of now, Sam and Jenene really aren't very good at doing radio. Unfortunately, however, this blog is so full of uncritical syncophantic praise, it gives them little incentive to improve.
If, while S & J keep making dumb mistakes all over the place, the bloggers keep gushing about what a firebrand Sam is and how much they all looooove Jeneane (for what reason I can't afthom, and they seldom say what it is either) - then should we be surprised if the show simply continues as the amateurish mess it has been so far?
Part of the problem is, I believe that they are "savvy Hollywood kids." They think like actors, not like political commentators. They talk about themselves WAY too much, and they consistently behave as though they think the show is about them.
They don't seem to realize this, and many of the bloggers don't seem to "get it" either. But I think that this show, as it is, is not appealing to its listeners' better instincts.
For all Janeane's repetitive blather about how the GOP lacks "critcal thinking," she sure fails to offer much of it herself, and most of the bloggers don't show much of it either (although many of the guests do, thank god).
Come on people, let's cut the bullshit about how much you all loooove S & J. We should expect them to do a genuinely good show, not this hapless, amateurish, sophomoric mess. They need to be PUSHED a little. Excuse me - A LOT.
