Ateh Malkuth veGevurah veGedula LeOlam Amen.
Hearken to me, my voice, O ye heavens!
O thou spirit of darkness
because thou art the disobedient one
who is wicked, and appearest not
speaking the secrets of truth
according to the living breath:
I, exalted power of God,
the All-powerful,
the center of the circle,
powerful God who liveth forever,
who's end cannot be,
Iehevohe Tetragrammaton,
the only creator of heaven,
earth,and the dwelling of darkness,
and all that is in their palaces,
who dispooseth in secret wisdom
of all things in darkness as of light:
Curse thee and cast thee down,
and destroy thy seat, joy, and power,
and I bind thee in the depths of Abaddon,
to remain until the day of judgement
whose end cannot be, I say,
until the seas of fire and sulphur,
which I have prepared for the wicked spirits,
that obey not the sons of iniquity.
Let the company of heaven curse thee!
Let the sun, moon, all the stars curse thee!
Let the light and all the Holy Ones of heaven
curse thee, unto the burning flame that liveth forever,
and unto the torment unspeakable!
you do not speak the language of the angels

Happy Bastille Day!
"We announce to the world the true principles of our actions. We wish an order of things where all low and cruel passions are enchained by the laws; all beneficent and generous feelings awakened; where distinctions arise only from equality itself; where the citizen is subject to the magistrate; the magistrate to the people, the people to justice. Where industry is an adornment to the liberty that ennobles it and commerce the source of public wealth, not simply of monstrous riches for a few families. We wish to substitute in our country morality for egoism, probity for a mere sense of honor, principle for habit, duty for etiquette, the empire of reason for the tyranny of custom, contempt for vice for contempt for misfortune; the grandeur of man for the triviality of grand society. We wish, in a word, to fulfill the course of nature, to absolve providence from the long reign of tyranny and crime."

Hello, God? It's Me, Dubya
Lord? Bush here. I'm confused. Why won't you crush Kerry and smite the heathens? Hello?
- By Mark Morford, SF Gate Columnist
Wednesday, July 14, 2004
Are you there, God? It's me, George W. Come in, Almighty. Do you read me?
It's about 8:00 pm and it's just after my last bubble bath of the day and here I am again, kneeling here in the Oval Office all by myself in my most favoritest PJs, the funny ones with the little M-1 tanks and baseball players all over them. I gots some problems, Lord.
Look, I've done everything you asked. I've been good. Haven't I?
I take the message to the people, don't I? I spout that evangelical born-again crap in pisswater Podunk conservative churches across this burned-out fear-drunk nation like I was emceeing a freakin' rodeo in Crawford. And they eat it up, Lord. They eat that stuff up. Hell, I even believe a lot of that fire-breathin' Second Comin' evildoer-hatin' stuff myself.
And looky here! Look how much dough I induce those evangelical suckers to cough up into the coffers of the GOP (that's God's Own Party -- just for you, Lord!). Doesn't that cut me a little slack fer when I skip over the part where Jesus says "Blessed are the peacemakers?"
Or when he says to turn the other cheek? Or love thy enemies? Or when the Bible says, "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control"? Or any of that other pointless pacifist hippie junk?
I mean, forgive me 'cuz I know your boy Jesus was great and all, but did he have the Carlysle Group breathing down his neck, screaming for more war profits? Did he have a million neat-o bombs at his instant disposal? Did he have Rummy scowling down his hawkish nose at him during naptime? No, he did not.

City and county plan big sendoff for local Guard unit
John Leeper
jleeper@stategazette.com
“We want this to be a celebration like no other in Tennessee. We want these young men and women of the National Guard to know how much this community loves them and appreciates the sacrifice they are making for their country.”
That was the joint statement made yesterday afternoon by Dyersburg Mayor Bill Revell and Dyer County Mayor Richard Hill, as they announced a unique send-off for the troops of the 230th Area Support Group of the Tennessee National Guard. On Saturday, August 7, a few days before the local unit is scheduled to depart for Fort Bragg, NC, en route to the Middle East, the mayors want Dyer Countians to participate in a gigantic covered dish luncheon at the Dyer County Fairgrounds.
“As soon as we got the word that our unit was heading overseas, people began calling me and asking what we were going to do for them,” said Revell. “We listened to several suggestions, but this one, we thought, was the best. It is a way every family in this county can show support for our young men and women in uniform.”
Hill, who is a member of the local American Legion Post, said this was an event all citizens should be able to get behind. “A covered dish dinner and camp meeting on the ground is something all Dyer Countians understand. It is a uniquely Southern tradition.”
The mayors said that several banks and civic organizations have already promised financial support for the endeavor and a committee is being formed to organize the event.
“This is going to be a big undertaking,” said Revell, “and we are going to need a lot of volunteers to help make this work.”
Hill said he envisioned a community afternoon with the center of attention being the Guardsmen and their families. The meal will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. with food lines set up inside the Family Living Center and, possibly, other fair

The years since 9/11 have been attack free on American soil.
Now that the Bush admin is facing an election, can't we use the same tricks to prevent an attack?
I guess the election will have to be called off and Martial Law will come out of his office.
This is the future. This is what is left of freedom. Cherish it while you can. A certain admin will make it the way they want it. And I'm betting that even many of those who vote for Bush will be sorry about the mistake they made.

here'sa repost of the story Sam hust mentioned
US 'needs terror policy debate'
The official argues that invading Iraq made the US no safer
A senior US intelligence official has told the BBC that the American-led war in Iraq was "a gift of epic proportions to Osama Bin Laden".
The official, identified as Anonymous, is preparing to publish a new book which says that the US is losing the battle against the al-Qaeda network.
He told the BBC's Newsnight programme that the US needed to have a debate about its policies in the Middle East.
He said the military option alone was "a bloody and unsuccessful tool".
The official's book, Imperial Hubris, to be published in August, rejects the Bush administration's assertions that al-Qaeda is in retreat and that the war in Iraq has made the US safer.
The author, described as a senior official with 20 years' experience of national security and terrorism issues, told BBC television that Osama Bin Laden's followers were "a spreading movement, powered by religion and also grounded in opposition to American policies".
"Unless there's a debate in our country about changing those five or six policies Bin Laden is focused on, we will certainly bleed... in the foreseeable future, certainly decades ahead," he said in the Newsnight interview.
The official said Washington's support for tyrannical regimes, its unqualified support for Israel and its presence in Iraq and Saudi Arabia were all policies that should be debated.
The exclusive interview can be seen in full on Newsnight on BBC2 at 2230 BST on Tuesday, 13 July.

Arguing with Bush yet Again
President Bush gave a speech on Tuesday in which he made specific claims about how the United States is safer as a result of his military action. I dispute assertions about particular Middle Eastern or South Asian countries.

Janeane is right, Sam is wrong. If you know the story, then it wasn't confusing. If you don't, it could be misunderstood.
The point is that there was no al Qaeda influence in Iraq prior to the invasion, but after the invasion, al Qaeda now has a training ground.
It wasn't clear, and Janeane made the right elucidating call.

Not only is Iraq a gift to Al Qaeda but no one wants to fight on the US side of any battle/war/theatre, because the US has a penchant for killing more friendlies with impunity than are killed by the enemy. So who would want to join the Bush Bunch? They don't know friendlies from a hole.......

Ray Taliaferro interviewed Sybel Edmonds on KGO in SF at 4:AM this morning. She talked about several interesting things that Ashcroft gagged congress from disclosing. Apparently he didn't issue a similar order to her, or she just didn't care. After MR is over, go to the KGO Radio website, and listen to the archives of the last hour of Ray's show last night.
Pay real close attention to what she says. Like I told you from the begining, the core of all this are Farsi speakers, NOT speakers of Arabic. Like I said all along, THAT ugly little fact is well known among former employees of various parts of the covert operations community.

"Last January, 60 Minutes reported that as CEO of Halliburton in the 1990s, you set up a subsidiary of the company in the Cayman Islands to help the country of Iran extract and process oil –- an effort to get around U.S. State Department restrictions on U.S. businesses transacting with countries that sponsor terrorism. That subsidiary is still operating, and does about $40 million worth of business with Iran each year. As vice president of the Untied States and former head of the company, will you ask Halliburton to stop doing business with a country President Bush has designated a charter member of the “axis of evil?”

Did anyone hear the 'news' that Ralph Nader's running mate isn't Constitutionally qualified to be elected?
Yep, its true. Nader's running mate, Peter Camejo, isn't a native born US citizen. He is a naturalized citizen that was born in Venezula! What exactly is the Nader campaign thinking?
Compare these links that were changed after some associates of mine started making some calls to our local board of elections and FEC, not to mention the Kerry campaign. They are long, so i apologize.
After:
http://www.progressive-asset.com/who/team.html
What's that look like to you?
Now Nader's site claims that Mr. Camejo was born in New York in 1939, whereas the Progressive Asset web-site stated before it was edited recently that Camejo was "from Venezuela, is a naturalized U.S. citizen."
Seems sort of odd that a company the Mr. Camejo founded would have incorrect biographical information on him. Why would his own company say he was 'naturalized' whereas Nader asserts he was a native born American citizen? It doesn't seem like those would be easily mistaken.
Janeane and Sam look into this please and explain it to a peasant like myself... *laughs*

"I love this song!" Barbara exclaims, grabbing my wrists and starting to wave my arms around. She throws her shoulders back and grinds her hips. It is the part of the evening when the D.J. goes old school with Guns N' Roses. For people who work here every night, this is the saddest point.
"Fifteen minutes later, I step outside to make sure the entrance is swept, and there I see Barbara bent over, hands on her knees, out on the sidewalk. "Are you all right?" I ask. Please, I think, don't let me see her throw up.
"She spits on the pavement. "Yeah, I just needed some fresh air," she says. She stands and I see her forehead is damp with sweat. It must be 20 degrees out, and windy. I want to go back into the warm restaurant, but I stay with her.

Bill Clinton did an excellent job, as did Hillary during their White House years, of explaining that "values" came down to what your values actually are, and that, e.g., valuing families meant supporting family and medical leave and expansion of health care to the uninsured, among other things.
Of course, it is a welcome sign that Johns Kerry and Edwards are sounding similar themes. But pls remember that the Clintons have been doing so for years. And Hillary can do a great job of helping enunciate Democratic values if allowed to speak at DNC 2004 in two weeks!

I swear, once on that show, one of the commentators said, soon after 9/11, "there is no question but that Bush will be reelected. His reelection is virtually certain. The only questions are by how much and who the opponent will be." Earlier this year, I remember watching Fox (don't ask me why, I was drunk) and these two GOP pundits were talking about possible running mates for Howard Dean, when he was the front-runner. They started laughing when the anchor mentioned Sam Nunn (former Senator from Georgia). They both said, the Dems will never get someone of Sam Nunn's stature to run on this ticket. One of them said, "no one wants to jump on a sinking ship." Smug bastards!

RE: Values (nails on a chalkboard for Janeane) vs. intellectualism
Janeane:
I believe you are wrong.
Your hostility to values is revealing and, to me, damning. It shows your fealty to the loser argument of intellectualism. Did Ghandi appeal primarily to the intellect? MLK? Even T. Jeff? No. It was about what makes the heart soar. It was about a love of justice. It was about demanding a fair deal.
Argument in a nutshell: it's about the heart and not the head. I know plenty of smart folks (and the world is littered with such examples) who have a rotten heart and therefore will wreck public policy or abuse it for narrow-minded self interest.
Speaking for myself, I'd rather have reasonably intelligent people who have empathy and real concern for their fellow man and woman directing public policy than the very greatest brainiacs you can assemble anywhere in the world.
dr
p.s. I think you need to get smarter real quick or grow up. Either one would be helpful.

The Despoiling of America
How George W. Bush became the head of the new American Dominionist Church/State
by Katherine Yurica
Most Americans have been aware that religious right Republicans have become extremely active politically in the last twenty years. But because we're Americans and we're mostly tolerant of other people's religious beliefs, their rise to power hasn't really troubled us. We should be troubled. There is now overwhelming evidence that conservative Christians set out to overthrow the government of the United States, dispense with our democracy, and institute in its place, a government ruled by Old Testament laws--including an expanded litany of death penalties. This article is not a conspiracy theory. It contains the legal elements required for the prosecution of any criminal or civil conspiracy in our nation....

David Richey,
Add these to your worthless nouns list. I certainly have:
Family values
Common sense
No two people define them alike. They have no universal meaning. The former is merely a political football. I prefer to punt.

RE David Richey:
What "makes the heart soar" is very subjective. I prefer respect for basic human rights as opposed to "love for justice." While your way of phrasing things looks and sounds appealing to many, the meanings will be different for everyone. They're so vague, they almost have no meaning, which is why it's very easy to hold such "values."

Who decides that a midwestern media accent is the defacto standard? Cosby hears the african american dialects and in them, hears ignorance where I hear history and culture. I hear a res accent and it makes me cringe, and no, I don't find a yiddish accent inately funny. Then I remember that it's a question of history and perspective. Cosby fails to understand that he's been inculcated into the values, culture, and asthetics of the monoculture.
Cosby doesn't want to accept that America is full of "well spoken" african american people with degrees who can't get work. Their ethnic code switching skills aren't serving them, because those skills do little to defray the effects of an inherantly ethnocentric culture.
This woman is off base, regarding the importance of religion in America. Anthropology teaches us that what people think, say and do, and what they think, say, and do *about* what they think, say, and do, are all COMPLETELY different things! Wheee! Look at church attendance versus population, and you have a factual scientific answer, not about faith, but about practices. Questions of faith required advanced research into phsysical health, overall celerity index (look it up, you need to know that), and a host of other factors over a long time frame.

The thing about religion is, it seems to me that religious people go to thier church or temple regularly. Like Kerry or Clinton. None of the Bushes do that, and neither did Reagan.
Seems the Democratic Surrogates (including AAR people) should be mentioning the phoniness of the Republican religeosity.

I don't know, but I'm still trying to find where I read that Mike Ditka had a homosexual encounter when he was in high school or college. It also said something about what's his name, former IU coach called Knight (sociopath). Apparently they were gay at one time. That's what I hear, anyway.

Hey everyone,
Great song by Will Hoge on Itunes Hey Mr. Presedent (anyone but you)
Check out the lyrics:
Hey Mr. President (Anyone But You)
Hey Mister President
Can you tell me where my money went
80 hours a week and I break my bones
and I can barely feed my 3 kids at home
bills and debts are all I call mine
I got a foot in the grave, one in the welfare line
Come november gonna go downtown
Gonna pick me up a ballot
And I'll write this down:
Anyone but you will be just fine
Anyone but you can have this vote of mine
I don't believe that what you say is true
So I'm gonna vote for anyone but you
Hey Mister President
Can you tell me why my boy got sent
Across the ocean and off to war
And I don't even know what we're fighting for
Nuclear bombs and poison gas
Would you send your own son off so fast
Probably not `cause the rich don't fight
They just sit back and let the poor kids die
Come November gonna go downtown
Gonna pick me up a ballot,
And I'll write this down:
Anyone but you will be just fine
Anyone but you can have this vote of mine
I don't believe what you say is true
So I'm gonna vote for anyone but you
Hey Mister President
Can you tell me where my job went
I went today and the factory closed
They're moving it all down to Mexico
See you on the tv every night
Sayin' everything's gonna be alright
But I don't know just what I'll do
Maybe me and my family'll come and live with you
Probably not so I'll go downtown
Pick me up a ballot
And I'll write this down
Anyone but you will be just fine
Anyone but you can have this vote of mine
I don't believe what you say is true
So I'm gonna vote for anyone but you
Give me John Kerry, give me Howard Dean
Give me John Edwards or Steve McQueen
Or Al Sharpton I don't mind
Or you can give me Ray Charles, least I know he's blind
Ronald Reagan or Schwarzenegger
I'd rather have an actor than just a faker
Gary Coleman or the guy from Cheers

One of the teens called in on The Al Franken Show this morning and said it happened to him & his friends, who were holding up an anti-Bush banner, with at least one witness but unfortunately no photo so no proof.
Perhaps they are locking up protesters now so that they don't end up with a picture of Bush giving one of them a finger. So bring a camera!

Kudos to Janeane for her wise + accurate comments
on the hypocrisy of America's so-called "great religiosity." In the vast majority of cases, it's simply because folks want to get through those Pearly Gates. Yes, they're afraid to die, but also they imagine that their selfish, petty egos are so important + indispensable
that the universe couldn't exist without them.
All *true* spiritual + religious teachings say just the opposite.
The vaunted conservative "values" we hear so much about are nothing more than egotism, vanity + greed wrapped in fire-and-brimstone nonsense + smug biblical double-talk.

Amy Sullivan is right. I, too, am a Democrat because of my spirtual values. I started out as a Methodist in my upbringing, became an Episcopalian as an adult and now consider Unitarian Univeralism the core of my spiritual philosophy. And being a gay man has made me more liberal since I came of age 25 years ago.

VITAL SPEECHES OF THE DAY:A
MESSAGE FROM NOAM CHOMSKY
The following is a extremely vital speech made by Noam Chomsky, the 60+ year-old MIT professor,
well-known linguist, and U.S. foreign and domestic policy critic. This speech, made on March 17,
1991 in Kentfield, CA was originally supposed to touch on the issue of the Gulf War, but as you will
see, his message permeates much more.
As you read this, you'll notice that Chomsky cites few sources for his views. Most of the sources
can be found in his books if you wish to investigate them. This here is meant to assist people in
waking up. For scrutinizing Chomsky's conclusions, you'll find them heavily footnoted in his
books (ie. NECESSARY ILLUSIONS, Thought Control in Democratic Societies). Any good
public library--especially college ones--are bound to have many of his books.
The topic that was announced, "Disinformation and the Gulf War," is actually a bit narrower than
what I would like to talk about. I will get to that in a moment. But I'd like to suggest a somewhat
broader context for looking at that particular issue. The context actually has to do with what kind of
a world and what kind of a society we want to live in, and in particular in what sense of democracy
do we want this to be a democratic society. In opening that question for a little bit of discussion, let
me begin by counter-posing two different conceptions of democracy. One conception of democracy
has it that a democratic society is one in which the public has the means to participate in some
meaningful way in the management of their own affairs and the means of information are open and
free. If you look up democracy in the dictionary you'll get a definition something like that.
An alternative conception of democracy is that the public must be barred from managing their own
affairs and the means of information must be kept narrowly and rigidly controlled. That may sound
like an odd conception of democracy, but it's important to understand that it is the prevailing
conception. In fact, it has long been, not just in operation, but even in theory. There's a
