Posted by: karendawn at June 25, 2004 11:07 PM
Repost that provides an insight into Bush's crazy religion.
Re: “Under God”
Bush’s god is not the god of the founding fathers. Bush’s god is the god of revelation who gives a special message to the chosen people. Bush’s god is a god who listens to prayers and will pick the side of those who pray the hardest. As a god of revelation Bush’s god is opposed to reason and the age of enlightenment which was the real culture and environment that created the USA. Therefore Bush is fundamentally anti-American.
What most people don't realize is that the founding fathers were mostly deists, not puritans. As deists they didn’t believe in a “personal” relationship with God which they considered a form of idolatry. They believed that Reason was the presence of God in humanity and that God worked only by a most general hand of providence not by direct intervention based on prayer. They also did not believe that the myth of the Garden of Eden should be taken literally and they didn’t hate nature.
Here’s a quote from “The Power of Myth”, Bill Moyers’ interview with Joseph Campbell:
“MOYERS: And to them it was the god of reason.
“CAMPBELL: Yes. This is the first nation in the world that was ever established on the basis of reason instead of simply warfare. These were eighteenth-century deists, these gentlemen. Over here [on the dollar bill] we read, “In God We Trust.” But that is not the god of the Bible. These men did not believe in a Fall. They did not think the mind of man was cut off from God. The mind of man, cleansed of secondary and merely temporal concerns, beholds with the radiance of the cleansed mirror a reflection of the rational mind of God. Reason puts you in touch with God. Consequently, for these men, there is no special revelation anywhere, and none is needed, because the mind of man cleared of its fallibilities is sufficiently capable of the knowledge of God. All people in the world are thus capable because all people in the word are capable of reason.
“All men are capable of reason. That is the fundamental principle of democracy. Because everybody’s mind is capable of true knowledge, you don’t have to have a special authority, or a speci

One more reaction to F 9/11
by David Richey
[an impressions mini-review for libs, conservatives, trolls, and mushy-middlers]
(a little sumpin' for everyone)
Wife and I saw F 9/11 today. Sold-out first showing, with many, many older folks (i.e. seniors, but then, it is Floridy). Subsequent showings were all sold-out, too, or so I hear. I live in a very Republican part of Florida, so this is an encouraging sign from this neck of the woods.
A few thoughts.
Overall, the film is a measured, proportionate response to the manifold instances of incompetence, negligence, deception and abuses of power of the Bush Administration. The film is also scathing in its indictment of same.
If you are a fellow traveler in the Bush-must-go crowd, the film is also funny as hell in places. There are a few shaky broad-brush generalizations and cheapshots, I thought, but now is not the time to adhere to the far-right's hypocritical cries to be "fair and balanced" when they have no interest and give no expression to the same high-minded ideal. This is very much a point-of-view driven film, and like so many things in life, this is not a question of facts so much as one of emphasis.
The film contains many, many moving sequences (esp. of a grief-stricken Lila Lipscomb, who is transformed in an unforgettable way by her personal tragedy, just as we all share a small portion in her drowning grief, and another of a shattered Iraqi mother, standing alone and bereft and trembling amid the rubble of her bombed-out home and keening to her God with a lacerating rawness, a piercing ululating cry of despair that bids us all bear witness to the enormity of her loss; it is moments like these in the film that transcend the p

ONCE THE INFLATION MONSTER IS LET LOOSE, IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STOP.
To recapture economic stability, it took collective national pain and widespread personal sacrifice: Unemployment and under-employment. Debt defaults and bankruptcies. Sometimes many months of financial chaos.
Strangely, though, policymakers today don't seem to remember — or they don't WANT to remember.
My father used to put it this way: "There's nothing wrong with their memory. Their problem is they have a very convenient 'forgetory.'" They selectively forget all those annoying, not-so-trivial tidbits that could upset their current agenda.
The current agenda is growth at all costs, just as it was before the last round of inflation. And this time, like the last, the ultimate cost may be very high.
We've already seen the greatest U.S. budget deficit in history, even during some of the best of times. We've already seen the largest U.S. trade deficit of all time, even when the U.S. economy was still strong. If that's what we face in supposedly good times, what will happen in bad times?
To answer these questions, we cannot peer over the horizon and see our future. We can only look back to the past and gather some clues.
USA, 1970s
Richard Nixon was president. He thought he had solved inflation by slapping on wage-and-price controls in 1971. But he was wrong.

The lady doth protest too much, methinks."
--From Hamlet (III, ii, 239)
Queen Gertrude speaks these famous words to her son, Prince Hamlet, while watching a play at court. Gertrude does not realize that Hamlet has staged this play to trap her and her new husband, King Claudius, whom Hamlet suspects of having murdered his father. She also does not realize that the lady who "doth protest too much" is actually herself, as the Player King and Queen represent King Hamlet and Queen Gertrude. The former will be poisoned (in this play within the play) by the king's brother, as in reality (Hamlet suspects) Claudius killed King Hamlet. Gertrude's statement is in response to the play-Queen's repetitive statements of loyalty to and love of her first husband.

It's just a good collection of thoughts on the past four years. It was hard to see the full effect at the time with the media stupidity. But now a filmmaker like Moore has all the dots to connect. This explains the inspiration behind Hope for Healthcare...
jjem wrote this letter to the editor and made it available to others who wanted to edit and send it to newspapers. Here is the version Oscar in Louisville sent to the New York Times, in response to an article about John Kerry criticizing Bush's record and promising patients' rights.
Jessica wrote the following letter to the editor, which was edited by Oscar in Louisville.
---
Hope died last night.
Every day we hear politicians say that health care for all Americans is important. We also hear profuse excuses about impossible odds of passage due to partisan bickering, while Hope’s light lies flickering. We hear the pitiful pretext for delayed deeds of valor that ought be done by civil servants and their elected masters, so we are left without Hope.
While the excuses flowed, Hope died, and a family was devastated.
Hope Valdez was born at 21 weeks gestation – a tiny little girl thrown into an ambivalent world.
For hour upon agonizing hour, knowing that something was very wrong, her mother fought to be seen in the hospital, due to an unpaid medical bill, because she had no insurance. She had been compelled to choose between frequenting a physician’s facility and feeding her family, because “care-givers” were more concerned with currency than Hope.
My friend lost her baby today because she has no health insurance. I Hope that Senator Kerry won't let it be in vain.

This was a good ruling from a judge telling the FCC to go back to the drawing board.
PROMETHEUS RADIO PROJECT
vs.
FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION; UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A federal court on Thursday
ordered the FCC to redo many of the controversial media ownership rules it passed last June. In addition, the court
strongly criticized the agency's methods for arriving at its conclusions in justifying increased media concentration. Under the ruling, the FCC will have to revisit the legal framework it operated under, and begin its deliberations anew.

On consideration whereof, IT IS ORDERED AND ADJUDGED by this Court that the Commission’s Order of July 2, 2003 is hereby affirmed in part and remanded in part.
The stay currently in effect will continue pending our review of the Commission’s action

Please substantiate your claim by cutting-and-pasting the portion from Wanniski's article where he says what you claim he does, or that portion that you feel supports your position. You have repeatedly replied with your own assertions, and those are not germane here.

Schwarzenegger Reverses Stand on Strays
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in the doghouse with animal-welfare advocates for proposing that shelters be allowed to kill stray animals more quickly to save money, said Friday that his budget recommendation was a mistake.
As part of his budget proposal first drafted in December, the governor had asked the Legislature to repeal a 1998 law that requires the shelters to hold dogs and cats up to six days before destroying them. The governor wanted to save local goverments that operate the shelters $14 million by cutting the waiting period in half.
But after a nationwide storm of protest, the governor organized a press conference outside his Capitol office and confessed to his error.

Schwarzenegger Wants Stray Animals Killed Faster
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to repeal a state law that requires animal shelters (search) to hold stray dogs and cats for up to six days before killing them.
Instead, there would be a three-day requirement for strays. Other animals, including birds, hamsters, potbellied pigs, rabbits, snakes and turtles, could be killed immediately

If you're near Columbus, check out Comfest:
"Yes, it’s time for The Party With A Purpose here in The Mother Of All Battleground States. And ComFest is on a mission.
As we gather again in Goodale Park for our 33rd year of celebrating harmony, diversity, peace and justice, that mission is obvious the minute you step onto the festival grounds. Every one of the 20,250 beer mugs, every one of the 1,900 volunteer t-shirts is emblazoned with our goal: VOTE FOR PEACE / WORK FOR JUSTICE. Everywhere you look, folks with clipboards are hustling to make sure that no eligible voter escapes the party without registering.
What kind of party is this, anyway? Same as it ever was. What you see all around you is this year’s expression of the political activism that has been at the heart of Community Festival since its founding in 1972.
ComFest was born in wartime. It’s been a going concern since the last time hiphugger flare jeans, midriff-baring halter tops and subpoenas for anti-war membership lists were in fashion. So we know a losing war, a lawless government and a sinking economy when we see them. And once again, we’re not going to take it sitting down.
Our goal this weekend is to leave no eligible voter unregistered. By November, we intend to make sure that no registered voter is left unmobilized.
But we’re not going to tell you who to vote for.
Community Festival does not endorse candidates. As former CBS News president Fred Friendly said of journalists, “Our job is not to make up anyone’s mind, but to open minds -- to make the agony of decision-making so intense that you can escape it only by thinking.”
In this case, when the choice comes down to a war hero turned war critic versus a chickenhawk turned war criminal, the agony shouldn’t be all that intense. Acting on our principles is rarely this easy.
Still, getting out the vote in November -- like the production of this now-huge festival -- will require everyone’s help. This is not somebody else’s job. In these next four months a lot will depend on the combined impact of many solitary decisions to flip through the channels one more time, or get up and go to a meeting. The struggle for each of us

Why sociopaths have these characteristics ? Are their brains different from those of normal people ? Do they display pathological alterations ?
Among the diagnoses were schizophrenia, depression, epilepsy, alcoholism, alcoholic dementia, mental retardation, cerebral palsy, brain injury, dissociative disorders and others. More than 64 % of them appeared to have frontal lobe abnormalities. Fifty percent had brain atrophy and 40 % had EEG abnormalities.

I have just been listening to John Kinsman and have to respond. My husband and I have an organic farm in Oregon and can confirm every assertion that John has made about farming in America. The USDA is less than interested in promoting and defending organic farm practices. The woman installed by the USDA to chair the NOP (National Organic Program) continually tries to introduce rule changes that would gut the intent of the program, such as the automatic accceptance of "inerts" in fertilizer, regardless of their content, and the use of sewage sludge, even though it is full of pharmacuticals and heavy metals. Specifics on request!
There is a milk sold here that had the nerve to state that they did not use Bovine Growth Hormone and the were sued by Monsanto.
Organic farming is the only segment of agriculture in this country that is growing strong.
So much more to say on the subject...

If you won't take offense at my saying so, I greatly admire Joseph Campbell and the point you make about many of the Founding Fathers being deists is one that is not widely known nor fully appreciated. It sheds insight on how our country was created and what the folks who conceived it had in mind as frames of reference (i.e. their essential and indispensible *liberalism*).
It just goes to prove that if America is to subsist as a great country, all may have their own religion or spirituality (or not, just as they choose), but the American *secular* religion must be a firm faith and abiding committment to liberal constitutional government.
Or least, that's my story.
Great post.

"The point that Wanniski makes that 99% of What Saddam could be charged with would also apply to W is an important one."
Firstly, evidence may be presented to prove a point directly and yet prove another implicitly. Wanniski intends to prove one thing and shows another.
Now I do not care what Wanniski is trying to prove because it does not matter to my argument. I do care however care about the fact base that is presented by Wanniski. By presenting that fact base Wanniski does show that whatever Saddam may be charged with so may W.
Wanniski presents the charges against Saddam as we know them and although the intent may be to disprove all those charges by comparison to W's actions it does also highlight W's actions as chargable offenses.
"If you think about it, 18 months ago Saddam Hussein was sitting in his office, the duly constituted president and prime minister of Iraq, minding his own business."
W is also the president of this country whether we want to argue his duly constituted status or not.
"It was at this point that President Bush decided Saddam had weapons of destruction and was conspiring with Al Qaeda to menace peace-loving nations like the United States."
Easy enough to prove that W has closer ties to Al Queda than Saddam and W openly conspired to invade Iraq.
"Even if you missed the TV coverage, if you read the papers carefully you would find no instance where Saddam thumbed his nose at the Council."
Saddam didn't go against the security council but W did
"Well, the administration of which you [JA]are the chief legal officer then insisted the war was justified because of Al Qaeda connections to Saddam’s regime. We [US] don’t need a permission slip from the UNSC "
One of the charges against Saddam was killing of Iraqis but what did W do?
"Estimates of the number of Iraqi military and militiamen killed in combat range as high as 60,000 and estimates of the collateral damage to civilians range from 16,000 to 35,000 deaths."
Abu Gharaib etc etc etc
"President Bush on many occasions has pointed out that Iraq is better off without Saddam because his regime was known to have used “torture

I wonder about the SBD chief of police too cathy. What was his purpose. I mean do all police chiefs have undercover agents actually out searching for discussion groups to infiltrate? Or was he tipped by a higher office to investigate? I just don't get why they're doing it.

any of Ashcrofts brownshirts care to weigh in?

Hey L@L~~~
Yeah I saw F911 and loved it.. was Michael Moore's best so far.... as I said earlier... I laughed.... I cried.... great....
I also just got back from The Hunting of the President and Joe Conason was there briefly talking about it.... Please go see it unless you already have his book.... He also said that Fox (the division that does videos) is going to release the video (or DVD)! How ironic, huh?
Conason said that Rupert Murdoch had just screened it and had liked it. He didn't like the message per se, but he knew it would make a lot of money! Follow the Money people... follow the money.... that really is what it's all about here.....

just like "day after tomorrow". The producers said murdoch had no control over film releases (probably on a majority basis he doesn't control, but i bet he could). I think he just wants money but I think Moore's films would never get his support.

I only now hear loud disdain for Bush and his cronies.... these type of people are not dumb and they have enough money doing what they do that for the most part they don't need Bush to help them make money.....
I remember Giuliani who most of us hated here in NY until 9/11 and then a few frightened people got oddly sentimental about him... but after he was out of office.. you may remember that he got a consulting job with Merrill Lynch and then Eliot Spitzer ...who you might be surprised to find many on Wall St actually love (Spitzer).....did that first suit against Merrill and Giuliani was basically caught off guard... and Merrill realized that Giuliani isn't really a 'money' guy.... and wasn't worth his fee... whatever it is....... and this just illustrates that these people really look down on a lot of these politicians.. they have more money than them and know they don't need them... and so they can afford to do the 'right' thing.. if they choose........

What happened to Kerry? But, no, I don't think he'd beat ANY mainstream candidate.
As I've said before, until greens (or any other 3rd party) hold seats in the senate and house running for president is pointless. Even if he defies the odds and wins, how can you expect anything but static from both sides of the ailse?
Nader can't decree laws any more than GW, maybe thats not the best example. But W is the leader of a very powerful machine, Ralph would be standing alone naked, with the republican jackals ripped him into shreds.

Nadar is a millionaire ... ok ... he also spends 80% of his income on public service projects ... he lives on a little over 25k/yr.
He is so far up the moral high ground, people just can't relate.
That said, I would sure love it if he bails out before the election and encourages people to vote Kerry (which I will do while holding my nose).

Nader chose the man. Nader approves all moves he made. What perhaps Nader may not of approved of was the statement made by him. What politician would?
I've given you all the links I have on Nader at the moment but I can spend some time and outline things further lets say by tomorrow?
Posted by: Nobody at June 26, 2004 01:06 AM
Hey ... don't get me wrong ... I appreciate and enjoyed the links ... they just didn't have the kind of teeth that would merit serious bashing ...
I never said he was charismatic ... he's probably no genius ... but his moral character is beyond reproach ... the thing most people are pissed about is they fear he could cost Kerry the election ... I'm concerned too ... but its a moral position

(Boy, isn't that the truth?)
Nobody:
Isn't that just the point, Nobody? Isn't that why you haven't substantiated your claim, *precisely* b/c you don't care what Wanniski says. You only care what *you* say, and I'm not at all interested in what you say until you can substantiate your point. What you are doing is proving your own point of view and ignoring the claim in question (posted, yet again, in the asterisks below).
All the rest of what you write in this last post is merely a diversionary red herring (again). Coulda saved yourself a lot of trouble.
Your task is simple should you choose to accept it. Cut-and-paste from Wanniski to support your claim of what you say Wanniski says:
*******
"The point that Wanniski makes that 99% of What Saddam could be charged with would also apply to W is an important one."
Posted by: Nobody at June 24, 2004 08:42 PM

I am disputing the accuracy of your claim about what you say Wanniski says, b/c he does not say this. I am not disputing what you wish to change the topic to, Nobody. Focus on the statement above (between the asterisks) and substantiate that claim by dredging the Wanniski piece.
Here is your Wanniski link:
http://wanniski.com/showarticle.asp?articleid=3643
Again, Wanniski pointedly does *not* say what you claim he says. Only *you* say this, Nobody. You make the point about Bush and Saddam being equally guilty of crimes, not Wanniski. All your verbiage is just a dodge.

putti...the article...I try and outline the root cause of the situation we find ourselves in in natural terms.
The first part of the article is supposed to lay the connection between what we think of as sociopathic or antisocial nehavior and the alpha type or our leaders.
The second part shows that these behaviors which really turn out bad have indeed natural purposes and causes and that they go wrong because of certain socioeconomic pressures.
Then I go into how to alleviate these pressures with a progressive and liberal agenda.
Having a terrible time wording things correctly I'm not the greatest writer after all.

re: Friday June 25 show
Okay, so I tune into your show via the internet (as I live in LA and have to do this to hear you) and am almost always enlightened, amused and entertained. Today however I had two main "sticking points".
In the first ten minutes of the show Janeane referred to Ray Bradbury as a "douche bag'. My problem with this is that Bradbury's comments regarding the title of the current Michael Moore film are childish and a bit curmudgeonly but way beyond requiring such a dismissive comment from Janeane. I look to your show to comment and discuss topics, to perhaps cite specific things Bradbury said and to address them. By dismissing him as a "douch bag" brings your show on par with the Rush and A Coulter school of radio. I truly expect a bit more from our team. Mr Bradbury has had his books banned by fundamentalist Christian groups, school boards and local councils. He has been a burning light for the left for over five decades and in a fairly unfair and dismissive way I feel you fell into the ant-intellectual trap you often accuse others of. Perhaps a BIT more analysis and less AM Radio early-morning-drive-time antics? I'm HOPING that was simply a friday-madness moment, or perhaps Janeane is goofy after missing Sam all week and had a momentary Brain Fart.
Second and most concerning for me is the lack of analysis concerning Michael Moore. I'm a TREMENDOUS fan of his work, am grateful to him and his skills and for shaking up of the general public...BUT not once have I heard you discuss the allegations that he has in the past refused to work with Union people on his projects. It's been alleged that Mr Moore refused to hire any Writers Guild members for his "TV NATION" television show. If true, this is a bit hypocritical . Have you ever discussed this? Asked him directly about this? Don't you think you should?
I hope we hold ALL people to the same standards. I know it is easy to admire a person for the overall work they do and to turn a blind eye to the behaviors that we find objectionable, but SURELY Janeane and Sam's show is the most appropriate place to question ALL people in the Public/Political arena...both our "enemies" and our "friends".
Keep Up The EQ

if we fed all the poor and did our best to conquer disease and put an end to war and a reduction to terrorist bombing, what the hell would we do about over population? there would be so many of us living that we would be elbow to elbow in well fed, healthy, safe and free human beings. What would we do with them all?
Posted by: Mel at June 26, 2004 02:24 AM
N - no profit on spending $$ on those "liberal" things!
They prefer:
Halliburton
KBR
Northrop/Grumman
Hummvees
body armor
bullets & bangs, et al.
Sick, twisted shit.
Posted by: Liberal-at-large at June 26, 2004 02:28 AM
Mel...overpopulation?
As people get better off they have less children Mel. Birth control is effective. There is much land on this planet that could be "greened" and turned to farmland.
Of course eventually we will need a new place for people to live...
The money spent on military is more than enough to say rehab Mars or Venus and ship oue intrepid settlers there....
There are no problems without solutions only people unwilling to change fro mwhat they have always known.
Posted by: Nobody at June 26, 2004 02:30 AM
Oh LaL I would argue that there is huge profit there if we were to start thinking in terms of "human" captital...
The base of every economy depends on manpower...and if manpower is the currency you work with then profits can be counted differently.
Posted by: Nobody at June 26, 2004 02:33 AM
so you're telling me it's not neccesary to kill, execute, terminate and euthanize thousands off people a year to stem the tide of population explosions? So if contraceptives are readily available to developing nations in africa and asia and the carribean that as their economic status increased their population would decrease?
Mars Venus? how about the moon tough guy? it's much closer and already has been reached. a permanent satellite.
Posted by: Mel at June 26, 2004 02:38 AM
Mel first off...as people become wealthier they simply have less sex....Poor people have little else to enjoy but each other.
The population increase would slow...in very wealthy countries the population growth can be negative...Here in the US it's negative for the richest parts of our population and hence their policies.
Mars is the easy one to sell but I'd prefer venus because it could be terraformed on the cheap with extremophiles.
The moon would be a good place for a transfer station and power plants.
What I would like to see on the moon is high power high velocity rail guns to deliver materials to mars and venus...
Posted by: Nobody at June 26, 2004 02:44 AM
Agreed, but I was addressing the literal.
Cold, hard cash is all the House of Bush and
their ilk comprehend; it IS their true religion.
Their idea of "human" capital is the fucking
gardener, maid, butler, chaffeur and whoever
picks their fresh fruit & vegetables.

In the literal yes you'd need initial start up funds...but human capital has great returns on it...think of all the minds going to waste in poverty and it makes you ill...
I'm really veru seriously considering a project to prove this...
Posted by: Nobody at June 26, 2004 02:51 AM
extremophiles.
I couldn't find the word in my online dictionary so I can't say I know what you mean but the moon is big enough for a few cities and can be reach more easily than Venus or Mars which are too remote

Posted by: Nobody at June 26, 2004 03:00 AM
Mel it does in fact...the byproducts of their life cycle for instance stabilizes acids etc...
They convert one thing to another same as all life forms.
Take an extremophile that likes heat and tolerates acid and eats co2 and craps oxygen...
Drop it on venus and let it go...

With the reliability of cicadas burrowing up from the ground, every four years brings the unseemly spectacle at the Republican National Convention where a bunch of neocon chickenhawks wrap themselves in the flag and sway with erratic WASPy "rhythm" to the strains of Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA." In the interest of accuracy, I would propose the following alternate chorus to that song for the likes of George "daddy, I'm scared" Bush, Dick "I had other priorities" Cheney, Tom "the Negroes got all the good combat slots" Delay, Dennis "bum shoulder kept me out of the army, didn't keep from wrestling in college" Hastert, Rush "boil on my ass" Limbaugh, John "another deferment please" Ashcroft, et al., et al., et al.
You all know the tune........
And I'm glad that I'm an American
Where the rich can live for free
And I'd like to thank the men who died
For my wealthy friends and me
And I'd gladly stand up...... uh........ somewhere safe
And I'll cheer you on today
Cause I'm just a right wing sissy boy
Who wouldn't fight for the USA.
Posted by: MontanaHunter at June 26, 2004 03:10 AM
I get it now... you're saying terraform with those extrema thingies. that just may work...
how do you know so much about this stuff?
Posted by: Mel at June 26, 2004 03:11 AM
now Mel they crap oxygen....venus surface temperature lowers and then you send in the larger plants that eat c02 store carbon...now you have an oxygen rich "greenhouse" that's not totally unlivable for people...
same gravity...same chemical make up as earth...just dropping extremophiles alone are gongi to cause massive rains...the formation of rivers...oceans...
Then we start gardening hardcore.

The thing that got me wondering about venus was first that it's almost identical to the conditions on this planet of 4 billion years ago...
Life changed this planet slowly but see with venus we don't have to wait for evolution we have all the lifeforms here on this planet already just looking for a new home.
We have lifeforms that go back to the very start of the change all the way up to where we are now.
I like the idea of being a farmer.
The promotion of life in all it's forms are a priority for me.

Shrub's base is predominantly single or divorced white males. People with kids who're around them tend to think about the future.
Posted by: JIK at June 26, 2004 03:44 AM
Mel...there may be some truth to that as well...but I wouldn't say that you can't learn it as you get older since a lot of wisdom only comes with age.

NOTICE
Notice the intricate pattern of a spiders web,
The variety of cracks in mudflats, ice, sidewalks and faces.
Delight in the virtuoso of blues in the shadows of new fallen snow.
Gaze out across inaccessible colors compressed deeply into mountain glaciers.
Notice the forever changing patterns in infinite collections of sand,
or the boundless shades of green in the foliage of the season.
Touch the textures of tree bark, as many have done centuries before you.
See the glowing filigree patterns in leaf veins, insect wings and ancient beings.
Notice the shadows of tiny tree branches as they fall across immense skyscrapers.
Delight in the pattern of frost on the window panes of winter,
or the mist of life's breath on the linear surface of the same.
Gazing out of the window, see the cloud formations churning,
as life is, forever changing.
Feel the cuddle of a moody ,misty ,early morning fog.
Escape the beckoning colors of stoplights, malls and showscreens.
The neon signs screaming their warnings,
See them as colors trapped in stain glass windows
gracing the pristine cathedrals spattered
across the universe..
Glance upward to a now endless blue sky ,
pierced by the linear lace of a jet's steam.
Close your eyes listen ever so closely.
You can almost hear the earth scream
There is beauty in deteriorating paint,
on an aging screen door.
Yet it goes unnoticed.
Imagine the memories attached
to each particle of rust. Inconspicuously
drifting away from an antiquated car
We begin to live as we begin to die.
Given a list maybe one will take time to notice?
There is nothing more sacred than life.
Yet we are training young men to kill,
And asking them to give their lives
before ever having lived them.
Will anyone take the time to notice
the intricate pattern of human life
being destroyed before our eyes?
I've painted you a pretty picture
know open your eyes and face reality
Our worlds is what we make it
Have you Noticed we need a change?.

Actually Mel those natural disasters can be planned around and thus defended against.
Sure you're bound by outside laws but those laws are not necessarily restricting.
Changing from within is to design an enviroment were those stresses that turn people to the worng path are alleviated.
Changing within in another context would be to plant the seeds of those reforms in the minds of those around you.
I think you need to prove the concept to the world before they will move from what they know to what they don't.
You have to show it as "safer" more secure in as many ways possible...
my houses for instance because of natural shape, being half underground and pressure equalization are extremely resistant to tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, fire and flood....
that's one form of security

DADA if you replace the term "random with "indeterminate" you can say that telekinesis would be the mind effecting the indeterminism of matter/enegy in specific ways.
All order has a certain amount of randomness or indertiminsism...basically I like to think of it as a particle that just has nothing better to do so when you say...you're this or you're doing this it might just agree and do it or be it.

i've always been of the mind that all civil defenses should be mandatory from police to marines. I think a volunteer army or police force is a dangerous thing for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that you end up with the poor and the violent as your main force.
but if everyone had to serve in some capacity then we would all have more of a respect for the service and we would have a service that represented a better cross section of humanity.

"Anonymous" is the CIA's top Bin Laden hunter. But he thinks surgical
strikes on Al Qaeda are futile. "I think we've come to the place where
the military is about our only option. We have not really discussed the
idea of why we're at war with what I think is an increasing number of
Muslims. Which -- it's very hard in this country to debate policy
regarding Israel or to debate actions or policies that might result in more
expensive energy. I don't think it's something that we wanted to do, but
I think it's where we've arrived. We've arrived at the point where the
only option is military. And quite frankly, in Iraq and in Afghanistan
we've applied that military force with a certain daintiness that has
not served our interests well." And how exactly has slaughter and torture
of innocent Iraqis served our interests?

Fedayeen-Al Qaeda Link is Bogus Too
Newsday reports, "The CIA concluded 'a long time ago' that an al Qaeda
associate who met with two of the Sept. 11 hijackers in Malaysia was
not an officer in Saddam Hussein's army, as alleged Sunday by a
Republican member of the 9/11 commission. Commissioner John Lehman, who was Navy
secretary under Ronald Reagan, said 'new ... documents' indicated that
'at least one officer of Saddam's Fedayeen,' an elite army unit, 'was a
very prominent member of al Qaeda.' Lehman's remarks on NBC's 'Meet the
Press' lent support to the Bush administration's insistence that there
were strong ties between Hussein and al Qaeda. The administration
official said the CIA and U.S. Army obtained the lists of members of the
Fedayeen shortly after the invasion of Iraq last year. Some, he said, had
names 'similar to' Ahmad Hikmat Shakir. But, he said, the CIA had
concluded 'a long time ago' that none were the al Qaeda associate."

Bush Has Zarqawi's Blood On His Hands for Rejecting 3 Plans to Kill
Him
Fred Kaplan writes, "As far back as June 2002, U.S. intelligence
reported that Zarqawi had set up a weapons lab at Kirma in northern Iraq that
was capable of producing ricin and cyanide. The Pentagon drew up an
attack plan involving cruise missiles and smart bombs. The White House
turned it down. In October 2002, intelligence reported that Zarqawi was
preparing to use his bio-weapons in Europe. The Pentagon drew up another
attack plan. The White House again demurred. In January 2003, police in
London arrested terrorist suspects connected to the camp. The Pentagon
devised another attack plan. Again, the White House killed the plan,
not Zarqawi... In the two years since the Pentagon's first attack plan,
Zarqawi has been linked not just to Berg's execution but, according to
NBC, 700 other killings in Iraq. If Bush had carried out that attack
back in June 2002, the killings might not have happened."

Sgt. Javal "Davis' civilian attorney, Paul Bergrin, said during a
recess that he wants to question Bush and Rumsfeld about the prisoner abuse,
though he didn't include the request in court motions. Bergrin said
low-ranking troops at the prison were under intense pressure from the CIA
and other agencies to adopt 'Israeli methods,' such as forced nudity,
to break down Arab Muslim detainees. 'We would like to interview Bush
because we know as a matter of fact that President Bush changed the rules
of engagement for intelligence acquisition' when he said the Geneva
Conventions don't apply to suspected terrorists, Bergrin said."

Movie begins shocked to see man spit styling his own hair is non other than Paul Wolfowitz. (I never saw his face before his name and reputation preceded him) I am also shocked that most young people in the theater don't even know who are these people they are laughing at, as older gentleman next to me has to list the axis of evil Ashcroft, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld etc. I could go on but I mean really. As movie continues and I don't want to give it all away to those who have not seen it, it does it's job combining satire, Iraq, 9/11, the Saud Bush connection, and W's military record. Remind me how did he become President again? Oh yeah the stolen election that was brought up too.
Halfway through the movie I'm so angry I can't even eat anymore popcorn. Learned something new about W's military record and Saud connection. Laughed at invading of cookie munching peace group in California who under the patriot act was deemed a threat.

"Education...now seems to me perhaps the most authoritarian and dangerous of all the social inventions of mankind. It is the deepest foundation of the modern slave state, in which most people feel themselves to be nothing but producers, consumers, spectators, and 'fans,' driven more and more, in all parts of their lives, by greed, envy, and fear. My concern is not to improve 'education' but to do away with it, to end the ugly and antihuman business of people-shaping and to allow and help people to shape themselves."

U.S., European Union Give Strong Support for Iraq's Request for NATO Aid to Train Security Force
The Associated Press
NEWMARKET-ON-FERGUS, Ireland June 26, 2004 — The United States and the European Union offered strong support for Iraq's urgent request for NATO military help Saturday. "NATO has the capability and I believe the responsibility to help the Iraqi people defeat the terrorist threat that's facing their country," President Bush said.
"I think the bitter differences of the war are over," Bush said at the close of a U.S.-European Union summit. "There is a common interest and a common goal to help the Iraqi people."

BBC Story on Bush censoring Photo of him outof uniform:
Bush filmed in underwear
By Mark Simpson
BBC Ireland correspondent at Dromoland Castle
When the US president arranged a visit to Ireland in an election year he wanted to make sure the folks back home could see him - but not dressed in a vest.
And that is why there was a wave of international censorship after George W Bush appeared at the window of an Irish castle wearing a white undergarment, rather than his traditional shirt and tie.
It may have been bedtime, but the president was wide awake to the potential public relations dangers.
After spotting the camera, he quickly backtracked, and allowed one of his aides to open the bedroom window instead.
'Best vest man'
It was too late. The cameraman had got the shot - George W Bush as you have never seen him before, in a vest, about to go to bed, at Dromoland Castle in County Clare on the west coast of Ireland.
Rather than being known as "America's best dressed man," he could now be labelled "America's best vest man".
These pictures are the property of the Irish presidency and must not be used for transmission by any service
Memo
The person behind the lens was not a member of the paparazzi, it was the host broadcaster - and that meant the pictures were shared with media outlets around the world.
The feeding frenzy did not last long. Within minutes, broadcasters were being ordered not to use the pictures, even though they were the most original images of the day.

Fed's Santomero says U.S economy is robust
Tue Jun 22, 2004 11:45 AM ET
By Jon Hurdle
PHILADELPHIA, June 22 (Reuters) - The U.S. economy is strong but over time is likely to face a shortage of skilled workers as the job market changes, Philadelphia Federal Reserve President Anthony Santomero said on Tuesday.
In a speech that focused on education, Santomero said technological changes and increased globalization have driven the U.S. economy over the last decade and led to an increase in productivity.
"Productivity continues to rise rapidly in the U.S. Output growth is robust, and we are embarked on a new period of sustained expansion," Santomero told the National Commission for Cooperative Education.
As markets around the world become more integrated, many economists believe the nature of competition for U.S. companies is fundamentally changing, he said.
"These two factors (technology and globalization) have placed enormous pressure on firms to cut costs and to improve efficiency in the interests of self-preservation," Santomero said.
But the ever-changing demands of the knowledge economy are already making it tough for some workers who lack the skills to compete.
Santomero noted the proportion of the labor force with some college education has continued to grow.
"Yet, we are still graduating too few skilled workers to address the imbalance that has developed -- and will continue to develop -- between the supply of knowledge workers and the growing demand for them.
"This situation suggests a looming shortage of highly skilled workers and a potential surplus of lesser-skilled workers," Santomero said.

Public Information, Private Profit?
Long publicly available, a database detailing federal contracts has been outsourced ... to a federal contractor.
By Michael Scherer
May 26, 2004
For 25 years, the clearest window into the murky world of federal contracting has been an obscure public database available to anyone for a nominal fee. No longer. Under a new deal approved by the White House, the government's voluminous compilation of contracting information has been turned over to a contractor.

Privatizing the Government
Civil Servants As the Enemy
E-mail the editor
Established by an act of Congress in 1979, the Federal Procurement Data System was a rare island of public information, the only complete record of federal contracts. Using the database, journalists, auditors and federal investigators could review the million or so agreements with corporations Uncle Sam signed each year. They could find the companies reaping the largest awards, track the rise in no-bid deals, and measure the recent drive to replace federal employees with corporate employees. But under a new contract, the General Services Administration has now turned over responsibility for collecting and distributing information on government contracts to a beltway company called Global Computer Enterprises, Inc.
In signing the $24 million deal, the Bush Administration has privatized not only the collection and distribution of the data, but the database itself. For the first time since the system was established, the information will not be available directly to the public or subject to the Freedom of Information Act, according to federal officials. "It's a contractor owned and operated system," explains Nancy Gunsauls, a project manager at GCE. "We have the data."

Lee Iaccoca joins the Kerry election team....
here is what he had to say when he gave his endorsement.
"The fact is, we can't compete unless our technology is world-class and cutting-edge. We cannot create new high-paying jobs unless America is the world's leader in the industries of the future. And John Kerry understands that.
"John Kerry would make a great commander-in-chief, I have no doubt about that. He would also make one hell of a CEO. That's what a president is.
"So today I'm joining the Kerry team -- as a front-line worker, I guess -- I think in their jobs division or department or wherever I land. I will try to offer advice and consult with the senator and do whatever I can to make him the next president."

Yes, we have been shooting so many bullets in Afghanistan and Iraq that we now have a bullet shortage. Here are two reports about it.
See CNN report by Lou Dobbs
http://www.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0405/27/ldt.01.html
DOBBS: The military needs more bullets because of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the existing supplier of that ammunition simply can't keep up with demand. A major U.S. defense contractor says it can provide more ammunition, but only by importing it.
Peter Viles reports.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
PETER VILES, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Fighting two wars at once and training hundreds of thousands of soldiers to shoot, the Army now says it needs more ammunition, a lot more. The question at the Pentagon and in Congress, should those bullets be made in America or made in Canada and Israel?
The Army's main ammunition plant outside Kansas City is nearing full capacity, turning out 1.2 billion rounds a year. The Army wants to buy at least another half a billion rounds. General Dynamics proposes a global solution, ammo made by Winchester in Illinois, by Israel military industries and by SNC Technologies of Quebec Canada.
And if the thought of foreign made bullets troubles you, General Dynamics says this -- quote -- "All of our teammates are currently producing small-caliber ammunition for the U.S. armed forces."
House Armed Services Chairman Duncan Hunter is pushing for $59 million in federal spending at home to upgrade ammunition plants in the U.S.
REP. DUNCAN HUNTER (R), CALIFORNIA: I think we should make ammo in the United States. And so we're putting in the money to modernize that base and increase production here. I don't think we should rely on foreign sources.
VILES: The Army confirms it wants more ammunition, but denies there's a shortage on the battlefield, saying -- quote -- "The troops engaged in operations have the quantity that they need."

history teaches, if we observe the curve. Every leap in tech meets a competitor, or is in a race. this might be a race between AI and nano. And it can go a lot of ways from the nano end, but the AI end has some definite limits. At some point a machine that controls its own programming, sensory stimulus, and task assignment... well... you get the idea. No chemicals, nothing but pure linear logic to rely on.... except, of course, the bodhisatva subroutines interwoven into the subcode, if we're not dire idiots. Forget encryption, make it blatant and integral.
Anyway, you wanna know where these cheeseballs in gov are heaeded, they couldn't much give a real crap about the oil except to keep it from China and India.
Sanity would dictate that we burn anything but coal and oil. Coal is just plain bad for breathers. Oil, because there are a large number of essential laboratory items and medical items made from it. To rely on shale oil is irresponsible. Until our nano or bio is good enough, we're nots not to reserve as much as possible.

red cabbage is handy stuff. So is cillantro. Both cleanse the body of excess heavy metals. Know what? They can also cause heavy metal poisoning. Ta da! Smart farmers plant it to remove the heavy metals from their land. Then they dry the stuff, grind it, and bury it WAY deep. They also tend to draw away uranium.

than another plant fave, Quinoa. Look that baby up. Real cool stuuf. Added to Amaranth, you got a lot of problems whupped. Amaranth needs more foodlab time, but Quinoa is good to go as is. Got a funny side effect, in comse covered in a perfectly lovely shampoo, which has to be washed off before it can be eaten. But save the wash off, that stuff is a product! It's not actually a grain, it's a seed pod. Amazing nutritional value.
Posted by: JIK at June 26, 2004 02:02 PM
Quinoa
Quinoa is a cereal grain from Peru, which is closely related to the amaranth; quinoa is in the Goosefoot family, Chenopodiaceae. Our quinoa is definitely organic. The seed is about 1/8 inch in diameter. It is cooked and eaten much like oatmeal.
There are about 1480 calories in one pound of quinoa flour or seeds. The composition of the flour is approximately: 55.3% carbohydrates, 13.1% protein, 5.8% fat, 13.6% fiber, 9.3% water, and 2.9% minerals.
Special Foods!TM quinoa flour is made from organic quinoa seeds. Quinoa flour has a pleasant, nutty taste. It makes good tasting bread, muffins, bagels, pasta, milk, imitation nut butter, cookies, gravies, sauces, pancakes, flatbreads, doughnuts, dumplings, and who knows what else. (Recipes are supplied with the flours). ALL recipes are made without wheat or other grains, without yeast, and without milk, eggs, or sugar. Quinoa pasta is light brown in color; when cooked, the pasta is the color of whole-wheat noodles and the consistency of regular noodles.
Our quinoa products for sale include: bread, cookies, crackers, flat bread, flour, muffins, imitation nut buter, pancake mix, pasta, seeds, tortillas."

Need to make it competitive...Need to be able to sell reality...Need to sell the right way of doing...Need to make a profit...only thing that will convince greed.
Got to prove the model before anyone buys it...but when you do...they will not only do as they should but they will give you money to do it again...
Lots of small coops making good profits...just no model for being bigger...

This from my favorite paper...
It is a time of freedom and fear, of Gaia and of borders, of many paths and the widening of a universal toll road, emptying country and swelling cities, of the public bought into privacy and the privacy of the public sold into invisible data banks and knowing algorithms. It is the time of the warrior's peace and the miser's charity, when the planting of a seed is an act of conscientious objection.
These are the times when maps fade and direction is lost. Forwards is backwards now, so we glance sideways at the strange lands through which we are all passing, knowing for certain only that our destination has disappeared. We are unready to meet these times, but we proceed nonetheless, adapting as we wander, reshaping the Earth with every tread.
Behind us we have left the old times, the standard times, the high times. Welcome to the irregular times.

Its not the best grain ... but triticale is an important grain. In the future, Kirk will be transporting quadro-triticale ... his ship gets infestd with Tribbles ... and then the hilarity ensues.
If we don't invest in triticale, Kirk and Miramanee might never meet!

This religion, devised by precise mathematical formulae, weirder than the most obscure UFO/Atlantis cults, is invaluable to all superior renegades who, at any time, are justifiably on the edge of insanity and can be made whole only by developing a seventh sense of BLUDGEON HUMOR

THE White House has lodged a complaint with the Irish Embassy in Washington over RTE journalist Carole Coleman's interview with US President George Bush.
And it is believed the President's staff have now withdrawn from an exclusive interview which was to have been given to RTE this morning by First Lady Laura Bush.
It is understood that both RTE and the Department of Foreign Affairs were aware of the exclusive arrangement, scheduled for 11am today. However, when RTE put Ms Coleman's name forward as interviewer, they were told Mrs Bush would no longer be available.

Anybody ever read the guest book at http://www.islamonline.net ?
There are some awfully sick people out there. Posts like "we'll kill/bomb/nuke you cause you have not condemned X Y or Z" even though apologizing for X Y or Z is the top story on the site and the site has many major Islamic scholars explaining why something is against Islam right there on the page!!
I really feel sorry for the majority of Muslims. Even if all 1 billion of them gathered together and said we do not support terrorism it still would not be enough for many people.

"Brother, Can You Spare a Dime," lyrics by Yip Harburg, music by Gorney Harburg (1931)
They used to tell me I was building a dream, and so I followed the mob,
When there was earth to plow, or guns to bear, I was always there right on the job.
They used to tell me I was building a dream, with peace and glory ahead,
Why should I be standing in line, just waiting for bread?
Once I built a railroad, I made it run, made it race against time.
Once I built a railroad; now it's done. Brother, can you spare a dime?
Once I built a tower, up to the sun, brick, and rivet, and lime;
Once I built a tower, now it's done. Brother, can you spare a dime?
Once in khaki suits, gee we looked swell,
Full of that Yankee Doodly Dum,
Half a million boots went slogging through Hell,
And I was the kid with the drum!
Say, don't you remember, they called me Al; it was Al all the time.
Why don't you remember, I'm your pal? Buddy, can you spare a dime?
Once in khaki suits, gee we looked swell,
Full of that Yankee Doodly Dum,
Half a million boots went slogging through Hell,
And I was the kid with the drum!
Say, don't you remember, they called me Al; it was Al all the time.
Say, don't you remember, I'm your pal? Buddy, can you spare a dime?

don't bother with bob dobbs church of the sub genius....try discordianism, or cthuluism,
or maybe boo-hooism...
richey started nobodyism, oompa loompa's started Thagism...
i think the best cult is the one you start!...
S.O.B..."Stamp out Bob," 0r S.O.B., is an organization devoted to combating the Church of the Sub-Genius, which it denounces as a mind- control cult and not a real religion at all.
For $20, they will send you a bundle of Sub-Genius books and pamphlets, so you can see for yourself how dangerous, obscene, blasphemous and degrading the Sub-Genius cult is.

here's hoping...
One sunny day in 2005 an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue, where he'd been sitting on a park bench. He spoke to the U. S. Marine standing guard and said, "I would like to go in and meet with President Bush."
The Marine looked at the man and said, "Sir, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here."
The old man said, "Okay," and walked away.
The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, "I would like to go in and meet with President Bush."
The Marine again told the man, "Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here." The man thanked him and, again, just walked away.
The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same U. S. Marine, saying "I would like to go in and meet with President Bush."
The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said, "Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mr. Bush. I've told you already that Mr. Bush is no longer the president and no longer resides here. Don't you understand?"
The old man looked at the Marine and said, "Oh, I understand. I just love hearing it."
The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, "See you tomorrow."
