There Is Only Us

"But there is a different way of thinking about relationships with others. In some ways it seems like a new view. In fact, however, it is as old as all of humanity's great spiritual traditions. That is "There is only us" which is just another way of saying "There is no them." What is different today is that, to the voices of the prophets are being added the discoveries of physicists, biologists, chemists, mathematicians, economists, and psychologists. In short, the rest of the world may be, at last, catching up with Jesus, Buddha, and Mohammed, not to mention the Rig Vedas.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And it was without form and void. That is how Judeo-Christian scripture begins. That statement of formlessness has been taken to be a negative. But in fact, God created the universe as an integrated whole. God made the universe without divisions, without categories, without fences. Bit by bit, as a result of the need to label things to distinguish them from ourselves, humankind has broken God's masterpiece apart--categorizing, dividing, making it appear to be more humanity's creation and less God's.

Physicists, reporting from the quantum world, say that if one asks an electron whether it is a particle or a wave, the answer is "Yes". And it is both at the same time. More importantly, physicists say that an electron has no meaning or existence except in its relationship to the matter or energy around it. "In the quantum world, relationships are not just interesting; to many physicists, they are all there is to reality." (Margaret Wheatley, Leadership and the New Science, p.32.)

Biologists and chemists describe self-renewing systems. These are systems which are capable of accepting new components into the system and adapting to their addition. What makes this important is the understanding that systems which are not self-renewing are at equilibrium and, as such, are dead or dying. Living entities must be self-renewing, accommodating to change and the incorporation of difference. Otherwise, they die.

"Mathematicians demonstrate that there is no such thing as inconsequential data. The flap of a butterfly's wings in Tokyo affects a thunderstorm in New York. Even the most minute incident not only can but will have a significant impact upon the whole. This is true in the world of mathematics, but it is true in individual lives as well. Each person has a story of a word or a small act which changed their life.

The messages are clear, whether from religion or science. Fundamental reality is not in things but in relationships. There is no such thing as a separate existence. All members of any system, like it or not, are mutually dependent."

I don't bother trying to reason with Nader voters. Their level of delusion is commensurate with that of Republicans. I simply consider them Republicans. A vote for Nader is a vote for Bush. It's simple. If the math is too fucking complicated, look at it this way:

A vote for anyone but Kerry is a vote for Bush. Period.

So, you want to vote for someone besides Kerry? Fine. Just don't fucking try to convince anyone besides yourself that what you're doing isn't directly contributing to the re-election efforts of the fascist scumbag sitting in the Oval Office right now, talking to his imaginary friend and imagining he's actually getting answers.

BUSH PLANS TO SCREEN WHOLE US POPULATION FOR MENTAL ILLNESS
By Jeanne Lenzer
British Medical Journal
June 19, 2004

http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/328/7454/1458

A sweeping mental health initiative will be unveiled by President George W
Bush in July. The plan promises to integrate mentally ill patients fully
into the community by providing "services in the community, rather than
institutions," according to a March 2004 progress report entitled New
Freedom Initiative
. While some
praise the plan's goals, others say it protects the profits of drug
companies at the expense of the public.

Bush established the New Freedom Commission on Mental Health in April 2002
to conduct a "comprehensive study of the United States mental health service
delivery system." The commission issued its recommendations in July 2003.
Bush instructed more than 25 federal agencies to develop an implementation
plan based on those recommendations.

The president's commission found that "despite their prevalence, mental
disorders often go undiagnosed" and recommended comprehensive mental health
screening for "consumers of all ages," including preschool children.
According to the commission, "Each year, young children are expelled from
preschools and childcare facilities for severely disruptive behaviours and
emotional disorders." Schools, wrote the commission, are in a "key position"
to screen the 52 million students and 6 million adults who work at the
schools.......

Howdy all,

I've been away from the majority reporters for several days. Has there been mention of the Krar terrorist case in Texas in which Ashcroft has been keeping domestic terrorism by white supremists very quiet?

Here's an excerpt from Paul Krugman's column
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/06/22/opinion/22KRUG.html

In this case, it sounds over the top to accuse Mr. Ashcroft of trying to
bury news about terrorists who don't fit his preferred story line. Yet it's
hard to believe that William Krar wouldn't have become a household name if
he had been a Muslim, or even a leftist. Was Mr. Ashcroft, who once gave an
interview with Southern Partisan magazine in which he praised "Southern
patriots" like Jefferson Davis, reluctant to publicize the case of a
terrorist who happened to be a white supremacist?

More important, is Mr. Ashcroft neglecting real threats to the public
because of his ideological biases?

Mr. Krar's arrest was the result not of a determined law enforcement effort
against domestic terrorists, but of a fluke: when he sent a package
containing counterfeit U.N. and Defense Intelligence Agency credentials to
an associate in New Jersey, it was delivered to the wrong address. Luckily,
the recipient opened the package and contacted the F.B.I. But for that
fluke, we might well have found ourselves facing another Oklahoma City-type
atrocity.

The discovery of the Texas cyanide bomb should have served as a wake-up
call: 9/11 has focused our attention on the threat from Islamic radicals,
but murderous right-wing fanatics are still out there. The concerns of the
Justice Department, however, appear to lie elsewhere. Two weeks ago a
representative of the F.B.I. appealed to an industry group for help in
combating what, he told the audience, the F.B.I. regards as the country's
leading domestic terrorist threat: ecological and animal rights extremists.

A minority government, or a minority cabinet, is a cabinet of a parliamentary system which does not represent a majority in the parliament - or in bicameral parliaments, in that chamber whose confidence is considered most crucial.

Magic seat number is 151.... presently it appears that no party will reach that number (acording to the polls) on Monday...

This likely will mean a coalition governmeant.. which means two parties agree to work together to create a majority... often this has led to short terms... most recentyl Jow Clark's government.. I think they only lasted a year??? mnot sure but basically as soon as they couldn't pass anything another election had to be called.

Posted by: Maryscott O'Connor at June 22, 2004 10:19 PM

Sorry Maryscott, but that is not logically true. A vote for anyone but Kerry is not a vote for Bush unless the "anyone" is Bush since votes for anyone but Kerry do not count toward Bush.

It would be more plausible if you want to say, "a vote for anyone but Kerry is an abstention."

The vote for anyone but Kerry, if not for Bush, is a vote that otherwise might just not have been made. It is better to count how many don't want either Bush or Kerry than to have people not vote.

I love Janeane, and I love Sam, and I love the guests, but you guys run the most amateur show on AirAmerica.

The smoother the show, the more the listeners, and the talent can concentrate on the actual discussions.

After almost 3 months on the air, all the other shows have got it together for the most part, but you guys (especially Janeane) are still whining about 'cans' not being on, mics are still not being turned on when they should be, we still get that bizarre effect where were hearing the show plus the 7 second delay (last night!)

Last night and tonight, we can hear you guys in the background while commercials are playing!

It's not that hard guys. If you need a good engineer, get one. If you don't know how to operate the gear by now, come in some weekend and learn. And if the gear sucks, get new stuff.

This cause is too important to be apologizing for the sound of your microphone, or worse, the fact that your usual engineer isn't here.

Liberal Fag Radio Network AIR AMERICA In Deep Financial Crisis
Mon Jun 21 2004 11:20:16 ET

On March 30, the night before Air America went on the air, the liberal radio network threw itself a $70,000 party at Manhattan's hip Maritime Hotel. More than 1,000 guests, including Yoko Fag Ono and Tim Fag Robbins, drank red, white and blue vodka cocktails as they toasted the network's bid to challenge the dominance of conservative talk radio.

But behind the scenes, Air America was running out of money.

The WALL STREET JOURNAL reports on Monday: Several employees say they still haven't been reimbursed for the costs of attending the New York launch.
Many of Air America's investors and executives say they thought the network had raised more than $30 million, based on assurances from its owners, Guam-based entrepreneurs Evan M. Cohen and Rex Sorensen.

In fact, Air America had raised only $6 million, Mr. Cohen concedes. Within six weeks of the launch, those funds had been spent and the company owed creditors more than $2 million.
When the problems came to light, 'we realized that we had all been duped,' says David Goodfriend, the company's acting chief operating officer. Messrs.

Cohen and Sorensen say they didn't mislead anyone about the company's finances. They say they planned to invest more over time but didn't because of cultural differences with other managers.

Both resigned in early May. Five months before a presidential election, Air America should be on a roll. Instead, it's grappling with a financial crisis. Creditors are lined up at the door, and it is off the air in two big markets, Los Angeles and Chicago.

I propose a tax on the air we breath. Also, it should be illegal to be able to pay for something - it should be mandatory to purchase everthing on credit so that everything can be so expensive, resulting in (watch the swinging watch) *growth*, that you have to make regular payments on everything you ever need to buy for your entire life. The penalty for not having insurance of at least 6 different kinds should be deptors prison.

This will all be alright as long as a demublican or remocrat is in office who will guarantee jahbs so that we can pay for all that stuff constantly.

Oh, and this planet is retarded to the core.

Over 110,000 of us have now pledged to see Fahrenheit 9/11 when it comes out this weekend. And after less than a day, over 650 house parties are now planned to help moviegoers convert our anger and outrage into election-winning action.

If all of us who pledged to see the movie this weekend come to a house party on Monday night, we can help make a huge impact on the fall election. At parties across the country, we'll discuss the movie, hear from Michael Moore and have a chance to ask him questions, and then plan local activities to take back the White House. It'll also be a lot of fun - meeting other MoveOn members always is.

Al Franken Extends Deal With Air America

Hoping to quell some of the rumors and the less than flattering press about the liberal talk radio network's finances that appeared in a Wall Street Journal article this week, a source at AAR tells R&R that midday host Al Franken has asked for and received an extension on his one-year deal with the network. Although details of the contract were not made public, R&R has learned that Franken's new deal will keep him on the air as Air America's midday talk host well beyond the original contract he signed last January, which was scheduled to expire at the end of this year.

Unfairenheit 9/11
The lies of Michael Moore.
By Christopher Hitchens
Posted Monday, June 21, 2004, at 12:26 PM PT

Moore: Trying to have it three ways

One of the many problems with the American left, and indeed of the American left, has been its image and self-image as something rather too solemn, mirthless, herbivorous, dull, monochrome, righteous, and boring. How many times, in my old days at The Nation magazine, did I hear wistful and semienvious ruminations? Where was the radical Firing Line show? Who will be our Rush Limbaugh? I used privately to hope that the emphasis, if the comrades ever got around to it, would be on the first of those and not the second. But the meetings themselves were so mind-numbing and lugubrious that I thought the danger of success on either front was infinitely slight.

Nonetheless, it seems that an answer to this long-felt need is finally beginning to emerge. I exempt Al Franken's unintentionally funny Air America network, to which I gave a couple of interviews in its early days. There, one could hear the reassuring noise of collapsing scenery and tripped-over wires and be reminded once again that correct politics and smooth media presentation are not even distant cousins. With Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11, however, an entirely new note has been struck. Here we glimpse a possible fusion between the turgid routines of MoveOn.org and the filmic standards, if not exactly the filmic skills, of Sergei Eisenstein or Leni Riefenstahl.

To describe this film as dishonest and demagogic would almost be to promote those terms to the level of respectability. To describe this film as a piece of crap would be to run the risk of a discourse that would never again rise above the excremental. To describe it as an exercise in facile crowd-pleasing would be too obvious. Fahrenheit 9/11 is a sinister exercise in moral frivolity, crudely disguised as an exercise in seriousness. It is also a spectacle of abject political cowardice masking itself as a demonstration of "dissenting" bravery

Any of my young 17 year old relatives out there who want to go to R-rated Farenheit 911, call me and I will take you all. You will be eligible to "go over there" in less than a year's time so at least you should be allowed to see this movie.

Janeane,

Please come chat. We'd love to hear from an anti-douchebag!

Music, politics, etc. All chat is welcome! :D
********

I may be wrong but I gather that Janeane is not very computer-chat enthusiastic.
