Lord of devas,world's abode,

Swift as many rivers
streaming to the ocean,
Rush the heroes
to your firey gullets,
Moth-like to meet
the flame of their destruction.
Headlong these plunge into you and perish....

Tell me who you are,and were from the beginning,
You of aspect grim.O God of gods,be gracious.
Take my homage,Lord. From me your ways are hidden.

"Tell me who you are." the answer is clear and unequivocal.

"Praying for plants...visualizing whirled peas?"

http://www.thevillagegate.org

...
Believe--don't believe--or believe in something totally different from what I do. It really doesn't matter to me. But think of it this way: even if prayer doesn't have any sort of supernatural effect, couldn't it have an effect on you? If you spend 10 to 15 minutes a day in peaceful relaxation, reminding yourself of the kind of country, and the kind of world you want to help create, maybe at some point you will find yourself about to make some snarky comment to someone you disagree with, and you will stop yourself. Maybe you will be ready to make some crass generalization about the other side, you will stop and ask yourself, "Is this the kind of us vs. them thinking that adds to the problem rather than helping to make things better? Right now, am I moving closer to or further away from What Really Matters--the kind of world I want to help create?"

So the bottom line is this: If you want, in the way you want, I invite you to join me in praying, meditating, sending vibes or thought energy, or affirming the country you are already working to help create. Maybe it will help change the world, moving us closer to bringing about "The Great Turning". Maybe it will change you. Maybe it will just be a quiet time (we all need more of that) when you can remind yourself that you are united in intention and action with people who want to make things better. Whatever it ends up being, in the final analysis, "It couldn't hoit!"

Support Michael Moore and the theater owners under fire by SELLING OUT THE MOVIE.

Vote with your dollar, see the film opening night at the first evening show. That's the one they look at the numbers most closely.

Only if it's sold out at every theater in town move to the later show, repeat on Saturday.

Put off any plans you have, this is the most important thing you can do this weekend.

I've got a post up that mentions the Hip Hop Convention, among other things, at the Dean Leaders blog:

http://dleaders.blogdrive.com/comments?id=64

I just found out this morning that the National Hip-Hop Political Convention will be taking place in Newark, N.J. from June 16-19. After a few people (myself included) commented that we really didn't know much about hip-hop as a culture or a political movement, Kimmy Cash of Punx for Democracy and DIY Politics responded with some resources:

I tell you with certainty Hip Hop is a culture and a political force. Just like there is a punk rock culture. It is VERY large and politicians should be very aware of it. If you want to know more about it I invite you to the following links

BlackElectorate.com
Urban Think Tank - Community for Hip Hop Culture, Rap Music, Black Culture, Black Music, Cultural Criticism & Popular culture
Davey D's Hip-Hop Corner: The New Source For The Hip-Hop Generation
Please inform yourselves.
For more information on the punk rock culture, please go to
A History of Punk
The Women of 1970's Punk
Punk rock - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If you want more information, let me know. It's frightening to know that even within the left it remains unknown.

It is a little embarrassing sometimes to realize how little I know about the various religious groups and cultures that exist in my own country. But I certainly enjoy the opportunity to learn. And it's good to be aware of the groups and events out there that can help invite people into the political process in ways that are comfortable, relevant, and meaningful for them. Let's try to keep each other informed about these things. Political activism isn't "one size fits all"--there are many talents and many temperaments. Fortunately there are probably almost as many ways to get involved and make a difference. Here's another upcoming event people should know about:

League of Pissed Off Voters National Convention
July 16th to 18th 2004
Columbus, Ohio

This will be the FRESHEST voter organizing convention ever! You will come

And what's with the republicans and Jane Fonda?

Whenever a republican mentions the name Jane Fonda, they go into demon excorcist mode. That Kerry was in her proximity during a vietnam protest was supposed to prove something sinister. Jeez.

I suspect they hate her because she made fitness into a mass product, and the fat ass republicans now hate every thin person, and especially the person who created all the thin people.

The thing about Jane Fonda was that she was very anti-Vietnam war. She went to Vietnam and got on the radio and broadcast anti-American-Vietnam war stuff. It was very hard for the hawks to understand her dissent, and some thought braodcasting for the "enemy" wasn't a very good choice on her part.

The hawks here back at home called her Hanoi Jane.

I was a kid at the time, but I remember just how much she was hated, and how she continues to be hated by subsequent generations who really have no idea what the original argument was all about. Hatred gets inherited.

B) Kerry isn't "uninteresting" (unless you choose to believe the media spin). Spend some time getting to know him, via his biography or by watching him on the campaign trail, and he actually becomes fascinating. He's just not all "flash." He's more substance. But he's not dull. That's just the media buzz, which I would hope that Air America could see past.

SOME PEOPLE STILL DON'T WANT YOU TO SEE MY MOVIE...
From Michael Moore
Thursday, June 18th, 2004

http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/message/index.php

Friends,

We're a week away from the nationwide opening of "Fahrenheit 9/11" and not a
day goes by where we don't have some new battle to fight thanks to those who
are still working overtime to keep people from seeing this film. What's
their problem? Are they worried about something?

A Republican PR firm has formed a fake grassroots front group called "Move
America Forward" to harass and intimidate theater owners into not showing
"Fahrenheit 9/11." These are the same people who successfully badgered CBS
into canceling the Reagan mini-series a few months ago. And they are
spending a ton of money this week to threaten movie theaters who even think
about showing our movie.

As of this morning, a little over 500 theaters have agreed to show the movie
beginning next Friday, June 25. There are three national/regional theater
chains who, as of today, have not booked the movie in their theaters. One
theater owner in Illinois has reported receiving death threats.

Pink - as the bing on your cherry
Pink - 'cause you are so very
Pink - it's the color of passion
Ah, 'cause today it just goes with the fashion

Pink - it was love at first sight
Yeah, Pink - when I turn out the light
And Pink gets me high as a kite
And I think everything is going to be all right
No matter what we do tonight

You could be my flamingo
'Cause pink - it's the new kinda of lingo
Pink - like a deco umbrella
It's kink that you don't ever tell her

Pink - it was love at first sight
And Pink when I turn out the light
Pink gets me high as a kite
And I think everything is going to be all right
No matter what we do tonight

Yeah!

I want to be your lover
I, I wanna wrap you in rubber
And it's pink as the sheets that we lay on
'Cause Pink - it's my favorite crayon

Yeah!

Pink - it was love at first sight
Pink - when I turn out the light
Pink - it's like red but not quite
And I think, everything is going to be all right
No matter what we do tonight

UPDATE ON RIGHT-WING EFFORT TO STOP THE MOORE FILM

I just did some investigating about the "Move America Forward" site trying to stop theatres from showing the Moore Film. I called the PR firm Russo Marsh & Rogers (their number is on their website www.rmrweb.com). I pretended to be wanting to help the cause, and they admitted to me that they are in fact running moveamericaforward.org. They were going to put me through to Douglas Lorenz but he had left for the day....Someone should dig a little further and find out who's REALLY behind it all (maybe even Al or Janeane talking to them on the air)....

"Job State: IRAQ, Job Number: 8. Interrogators: 30 Positions. Compensation to $120,000. Individuals must be trained Interrogators with at least five years of experience in interrogation. Individuals must be knowledgeable of Army/Joint interrogation procedures, data processing systems such as CHIMs and SIPRNET search engines. Knowledge of the Arabic language and culture a plus…Candidates must have documented in their resumes five years of Humint collection and/or interrogation experience. This is a requirement of the client. Some locations require individuals to work and live in a field environment with minimum medical facilities. Must possess the ability to work extended work hours in difficult surroundings for up to one year."

United Placements’ lists none other than Oliver North--a member of Ronald Reagan’s NSC and focal point of the Iran-Contra scandal in the 1980’s—as one of its two "Industry Associates." North is currently the host of Fox News Channel’s "War Stories." United Placement’s second "Industry Associate" is Intelligencecareers.com run by former intelligence analyst Bill Goldman.

Hello Bjorn,
Re Jane Fonda:

It wasn't just that she was for peace. She went to Hanoi and posed with NV gunners who were shooting down US servicemen. She also visited the "Hanoi Hilton", where US servicement were being held prisoner and being tortured, and lectured them that they were war criminals. You can argue whether or not those servicemen should have been sent to attack North Vietnam in the first place, but from their viewpoint what Jane Fonda did was treason. That is why she is such a controversial figure, in particular for military people from that era.

You can decide for yourself whether what she did was right or wrong.

Posted by: dh at June 18, 2004 08:58 PM

Hi Janeane and Tim:

BIG FAN of both of you, and Susan....

I was interested in your views comparing and contrasting GWB and your charachter in the Hudsucker Proxy. Well, I guess there is no comparison really.... Your charachter was simpathetic in his regularity. GW is contemptable desire for power and admiration in his base. Maybe Newman's character is like Chaney? Maybe we can sew Bush for producing a faulty product? Or, maybe none of this makes sense and is a total reach.... I just wanted to tell you I enjoyed your work in that. :-)

Keep Up the Great work!!!

The name of the movement was the Fugitives. They published an anthology in the early 20s. Laura Riding had some poems in it. Later they put together this book of essays defending Southern culture.

(By the way, I'm not defending them -- some of them may have been proudly reactionary; surely some of them could be put in that position based on contemporary standards.)

Robert Penn Warren, Allen Tate, others -- at least some associated with a college in Tennessee.

Have a good weekend.

Your guest, Thom Hartmann, is an intelligent, articulate guy and is great at weaving history with what's going on today. Let's have him as a guest more often .

UPDATE ON RIGHT-WING EFFORT TO STOP THE MOORE FILM

...Someone should dig a little further and find out who's REALLY behind it all (maybe even Al or Janeane talking to them on the air)....

GOP PR Firm Attempts to Censor Michael Moore's New Film

WASHINGTON - June 17 - The First Amendment Action Committee of PEN USA is deeply concerned by the blatant call for the a priori restraint of an upcoming movie release.

An organization called "Move America Forward" has launched a preemptive attack against movie maker Michael Moore's new film Fahrenheit 9/11 by requesting movie theaters across the country not to show the film, scheduled to open June 25. Their website claims they "are urging movie theaters to drop the anti-American film from their movie lineup."

...According to The Alternative Press Review, a public relations firm was hired by Bush-supporters to create the Move America Forward website. The California-based organization is headed by former GOP Assemblyman Howard Kaloogian and aided by Melanie Morgan, a talk show host on KSFO 560 AM, both of whom had high-profile roles in support of last year's recall election of former Democratic Governor Gray Davis.

The PR firm is Russo Marsh & Rogers, which is a GOP consultation firm that worked on the 2002 campaign of Bill Simon (R) who ran for governor of California. Investigative website Whatreallyhappened.com revealed that the Move America Forward web site was actually registered in the name of Russo Marsh & Rodgers, although recently the registrant name was modified to omit the PR firm.

Rather then asking Move America Forward supporters to boycott the movie themselves, the web page urges visitors to write letters to the theaters that are going to, or may eventually, show Moore's new movie...

Ollie the level conflict of interest is beyond treasonous-- it's big power.
But I can't forget Dianne Feinstein telling Wolfowitz during one of his evasive ramblings, someday the situation may not be in your favor. They may be arrogant and lie without shame now but I'm betting they won't be around much longer.

Let's return to a government of "We the People".

Start by shifting ALL taxes to corporations making 10 million per year or more in pretax profits.

No American citizen pays any taxes. It becomes a corporate interest that government operate as efficiently as possible in order to minimize the tax exposure of corporations.

Second, require any corporation doing business within the boundaries of the United States be structured such that employees of the U.S. corporation must hold a minium of 51% ownership interest in their employing corporation.

Thia irrevocably anchor's corporate facilities within their communities, minimizing outsourcing, and leading to the realization of corporations as servants to and stewards of the community.

the fourth and final period is Kali's Yuga
Running for only 432,000 years in which the power of evil and destruction takes over.
In the end, your real self takes the form of
Shiva,Lord of renewal through death

But,with one hand in the gesture called
'Fear not',as a reminder that all this is in

I suppose by now that when you press support for Michael Moore you go to the

website.

Let me get this straight:

So Ollie North and Sean Hannity blamed the latest beheading on the U.S. media making too much of Abu Ghraib.

SO NORTH AND HANNITY BLAMED AMERICA FIRST, AM I GETTING THIS RIGHT?

But wait, didn't they always say it's the liberals who blame America first? Am I missing something? Or is their logic just that twisted that it coiled back on themselves?

I wonder if there could be a show covering some of these things. Another recent one would be how Saddam Hussein could possibly use Ashcroft's own definition of terrorism as a defense in court.

These folks ain't too bright...
