Pending Draft Legislation Targeted for Spring 2005
The Draft will Start in June 2005

There is pending legislation in the House and Senate (twin bills: S 89 and HR 163) which will time the program's initiation so the draft can begin at early as Spring 2005 -- just after the 2004 presidential election. The administration is quietly trying to get these bills passed now, while the public's attention is on the elections, so our action on this is needed immediately.

Dodging the draft will be more difficult than those from the Vietnam era. College and Canada will not be options. In December 2001, Canada and the U.S. signed a "smart border declaration," which could be used to keep would-be draft dodgers in. Signed by Canada's minister of foreign affairs, John Manley, and U.S. Homeland Security director, Tom Ridge

Before we begin, try this:
Left brain, right brain.  While sitting at your computer, lift your right
foot off the floor and make clockwise circles.  Now, while doing this,
draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand. Your foot will
change direction and there's nothing you can do about it.

btw the new documents released also provide more evidence for complicity in the 9/11 1973 Chile coup:

wow, following some links from there i found AAR's Lizz Winstead interview... she seems to think that killing 2 million cambodians might qualify as a war crime:

REPORTER: So did that disappoint you, when Jon Stewart was nice to Kissinger?
WINSTEAD: I don't mean that you would necessarily need to grill Kissinger. But to let it go...
REPORTER: So you should jokingly say, "Say, Dr. Kissinger, what about those 2 million dead Cambodians...?"
WINSTEAD: Exactly! As a way to say something. To me, it seems like the elephant in the room.

Sam And Janeane--

You know what I am really pissed off at? I'm pissed off at an Attorney General who tells us we are definitely going to be attacked big this summer yet the Secretary of Homeland Security says that my duty as a American in the face of this is to "enjoy living in this great country" and to "go out and have some fun." What the hell does that mean?

It means one or all of the following"
1. The threats are not actually real and as the pattern has been, the level of panic is racheted up when things aren't going well for the administration.
2. the threats are real but they don't want us to stop spending money.
3. they are creating a pretext to ban public protest.
4. they are preparing the conditions to institute martial law so that Bush won't have to leave the White House.

Please talk about at least one of thease issues.

Posted by: dan at May 27, 2004 08:07 PM

SAM,

In your Oasis column today, you wrote this:

"Kerry needn’t risk taking a supposed politically expedient position on Iraq."

The Los Angeles Times has reported (with a definite lean) that Democratic groups and Liberals led by "Win Without War", a coalition of groups which includes Moveon.org and a host of other mainstream organizations, has come out with an at least somewhat differing opinion.
List of orgs in WWW coalition(42 of them):

http://www.winwithoutwarus.org/html/coalition.html

Anyway, any chance on having somebody on MR from Win Without War, Moveon.org or other WWW coalition members to have a look at their reasoning?

Thanks

Oh, and good column at the Oasis. I'm not saying I disagree. Either that I do disagree and I'm just not saying it.

Treatments for the seizures from Wernicke-Korsakoff-Syndrome.
Treating Seizures. Seizures are usually self-limited and treated with a benzodiazepine. Intravenous phenytoin (Dilantin) along with a benzodiazepine may be used in patients who have a history of seizures or in those whose seizures cannot be controlled.

Dilantin is also used for the treatment of schizophrenics as well as for Korsakoff syndrome. This would explain G.W. Bush being so "drugged" in appearance at some press conferences.

Perhaps there are liberals sneaking in...but Service in the name of the president is being taken very seriously in most parts of the country.

Draft is OK, if we revert to old war tactics.

In the old days, generals and kings had to fight in the front lines to rally their troops. Just put Bush in front, and see how long the bloodlust lasts.

I think during boot camp they teach you how to kill...that should've given them a clue as to what they may be forced to do at some time. I worked two jobs to get through college. I had a choice.

They well might. But that's not the point. The point IS that they do have people on with opposing points of view. Some nights, that's all there is! And yes, Koch pretty much cleaned their clocks. Sam and Janeane don't feel they have to act like they won a debate they didn't win. You want that, tune in to FOXNEWS. Plenty of it there.

One story that I remember wasn't reported in US media: Colin Powell's UN presentation intelligence was based on a plagiarised research paper by a California graduate student. The paper in question had been written around 1991. Also missing in the US media, the fact that the Niger documents had been discredited four months before GWB cited them in his State of the Nation address in January, 2003.

I recommend we cancel all our subscriptions to US media and buy the international papers and mags, visit the international web sites and the alternative media sites. US media won't get the point until it starts to affect their bottom line.

Posted by: at May 27, 2004 08:38 PM

Three things briefly.
1) Calls? I love Randi Rhodes's show and she can handle calls due to her format (it's just her), but the format doesn't work on Al's show (my opinion) and won't work here.
I don't need thirty calls with everyone saying, "Janeane! I love you! I just want to tell you that you were great in _____!" taking away from the topics that are being discussed.
(I love Reality Bites and Truth About Cats & Dogs. Were I to call, I'd probably be one of those saying the previous quote.)
The guests are interesting and Janeane and Sam's format is best without callers. (My opinion.)
2) Guests. If I want to hear various neocons, I certainly am able to access their views in every other media outlet.
There are so many voices (from various ends of the left) that are not represented in the media.
Though I'm sure Janeane & Sam could tear Richard Pearl apart or Condi or whomever, I'd rather we hear from people that are usually not given opportunities nation wide.
I've enjoyed (tremendously) hearing Howard Zinn,
Gloria Steinem, Arianna Huffington, Ellen & Bill earlier this week, etc. I'd rather (my opinion) hear from voices that are otherwise not available on radio (or TV) nationally.
3) Is the song being quoted ("War is peace" "Love is hate") Tracy Chapman's "Why?"

Posted by: Jake at May 27, 2004 08:38 PM

Sam and Janeane

Please ask your guest if he saw the documentary called war spin. It was broadcasted on link TV. It was about how all the information about this war was being manipulated by the Bush administration. And how the sum of the journalists in Iraq were being threatened by Bush cronies.

Congressman Murtha:

I just found out that Rush Limbaugh’s radio show is carried on Armed Forces Radio. That it is, in fact, the only long format talk radio show carried on this TAX PAYER funded network that our servicemen and women have access to.

I think this is a disgrace. Why are my tax dollars going to support Rush Limbaugh? His show should immediately be removed from Armed Forces Radio. Since when should tax money be used to subsidize Rush Limbaugh’s political agenda?

I hope you will act to see that Limbaugh is removed from Armed Forces Radio.

Fishgrease, the real point is they have very few on with view points from the opposite side, and when they do they do not handle it well. I believe that is the reason they won't take calls either. Callers, whether of the same leanings or not, would bring up subjects which would quickly get Sam and Jeanane in over their heads. These folks are amatures and I don't think preachin to the chior is advancing the liberal cause. They are going to have to step up to the plate one of these days if they are going to make it. I wish them well, but from what I have heard and seen so far it looks doubtful.

"isn't that really a myth. some volunteers, yes, but a lot of the ground troops in iraq were just reservists or wanted to pay for college. they didn't sign up for bush's game."

If you sign up for the military for whatever reason, it would probably be wise to consider the fact that it is the MILITARY and that there is a possibility you might have to fight. That is a large part of what you are trained for. If you wanted to go to college then go the local community college and get 2 jobs or whatever it takes to pay for it. I know several people who do exactly that. Yes it's hard, but if you don't want to take a chance of having to fight, then you don't belong in the military.

Thanks Bowery for the answer. I only know "1984" by Bowie (performed by Tina). I was thinking it was Tracy Chapman's "Why?" that was being quoted:

Why do the babies starve
When there's enough food to feed the world
Why when there're so many of us
Are there people still alone

Why are the missiles called peace keepers
When they're aimed to kill
Why is a woman still not safe
When she's in her home

Love is hate
War is peace
No is yes
And we're all fine

But somebody's gonna have to answer
The time is coming soon
Amidst all these questions and contradictions
There's some who seek the truth

Your hatred for the righteous people of Israel is so strong. "brutal Israeli Occupation" Is an anti- Israel and Anti you know what lie. You ignore the 800,000 Jews Threatened with ethinc cleansing forced to flee their homes in Arab lands between 48 and 67 with only the clothes on their backs??? Or the fact that Arafat and the Arab leadership doesn't lift a finger to help thier brothers (they DESPISE those poor people) Or that Israel defended itself from anialation in 48 and 67 and 73? Or that Araft has 8 billion in Swiss accouts? In fact HE has stolen all the aid money from Europe meant for Hospitals, schools, roads, etc and used it to buy weapons while his people STARVE and are taught to blow themselves up and that the Jews are the reason for their suffering...WRONG.. Let's try to ignore the trolls. We're better off talking amungst ourselves than trying to change the opinion of someone who has an agenda coming in, or trying to debate someone here who is just blogging to disrupt without logical debate.

Pleople are here because every response to something stupid like "Republicans won't start a draft" is a win for someone here to disrupt.

The only way they were able to make any impact here before was by trying to take down the server by posting the bible. It's not our responsibility to debate these people who have no intention to debate in a respectful, common sense manner. Be respectful of the other people here who are blogging to make a real impact, and ignore the trolls and the chicken-shit anonymous posts.

If anyone here watches pro wrestling (which I seriously doubt), you'd be interested to know that there is a new "bad guy" character who is from Texas, he wears a suit, he's a millionaire, and he's arrogant. I think it is really interesting because wresting happens to be a pretty big dumbed down show that caters to a middle-american audience.... and the big "bad guy" character is a Bush like Texan millionaire. Anyway, check it out. It's worth a look.

Talking point. No one works 80 hours a week and takes home just $250. Even working 40 hours a week at wal mart and you will earn more than that take home. I work at a large big box electronics retailer, and our lowest paid full time person working 40 hours a week takes home more than that.
And this retailer offers full tuition reimbursment for any full time person, and you do not have to major in business to qualify. That's how I paretially paid for my college degree, working full time there for 11 bucks an hour, only job, plus support my family with my wife working a 20 hour a week part time job.

Isn't Isreal the only country in America's history to have attacked a US Navy vessel in international water and not faced the severest consequences in fact faced no consequences. Is the Anti American hatred we glean from the muslum a good trade off for the 300 million odd dollars we hav given, loaned to Isreal. Frankly I rather like a fair look at this country's actions toward Isreal and Isreal's policy toward Ghaza and the West Bank.

Fair enough point. But if this guy doesn't have anyone to help support, then he also doesn't have the added expense of having another person to feed, cloth, pay medical expenses, etc. He only has himself. In addition, I would say that he should immmediately get another job, for as I said the lowest paid full time person at wal mart would make more money than that with just 40 hours a week. I would have to believe that there is a local Wal mart wherever this person lives. in addition, for anyone at this level of income there are multiple grants on the state and federal level that they would qualify for to assist and possibly even pay for college.

I was looking around Cafepress (after visiting the great Air America Radio shop, of course!) and saw they have some good anti-Bush / pro-Kerry shops. Here are a few. Type in "Bush" or "Kerry" and you find some interesting stuff.

BUSH DOES NOT READ

Bushism:;)

I glance at the headlines just to kind of get a flavor for what's moving. I rarely read the stories, and get briefed by people who are probably read the news themselves."—Washington, D.C., Sept. 21, 2003

Great. Sanctify the Idealist by denigrating the Realist. You don't like the process of compromise that must accompany political progress so you dismiss all but the Radical who wants to level all existing structure and start from the ground up. Have you ever studied what happens in a real revolution? Yep, can the progressive Realists and let the uncompromising Radicals become the new fascists...

Hi Janeane & Sam,

Great job! I'm now an Air America Addict...told my kids to forget about dinner and the laundry...I've got more important "homework" to do. Thanks for all of your efforts to give us the truth. If there's anything I can do to help (besides buying baseball caps and bumper stickers), just send me an e-mail.

Janeane, FYI...Steve, from The Cutting Room would love to host an after-party following the Concert for Kerry at Radio City Music Hall on June 10th.

I know Charlotte Beers. I laughed my ass off when she took that job. She's retired in the New Buffalo area of Michigan where a lot of old adholes go to die.
