Let the contractors flyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?
Again:
What about the Ashcroft connection?
Nobody mentions the fact that the private contractor hired to reopen Abu Ghraib was recommended by Ashcroft.
This was after the fellow was forced to quite has head of Utah corrections after an inmate died during abusive treatment:
"The experts also point out that the man who directed the reopening of the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq last year and trained the guards there resigned under pressure as director of the Utah Department of Corrections in 1997 after an inmate died while shackled to a restraining chair for 16 hours. The inmate, who suffered from schizophrenia, was kept naked the whole time.
The Utah official, Lane McCotter, later became an executive of a private prison company, one of whose jails was under investigation by the Justice Department when he was sent to Iraq as part of a team of prison officials, judges, prosecutors and police chiefs picked by Attorney General John Ashcroft to rebuild the country's criminal justice system."

Electronic Voting Machine Latest
Many of you are already aware of the dire situation we're in regarding the purchase of electronic voting machines for 31 Ohio counties. Right now, the only way to stop the purchase is to file a lawsuit to halt the purchase of these machines in time for the '04 election.
CASE (Citizens Alliance for Secure Elections) needs donations to cover legal fees. They've been working with the Electronic Frontier Founation(EFF), a non-profit, non-partisan organization based in California, to set up a fund for Ohio litigation on the electronic voting issue.

PLEASE Sam and Janeane,
Have everyone go to the 911 family steering committee website and carefully read ALL the their unanswered questions for the committee to ask.
911independentcommission.org
These are the heroic people that never stopped pushing for this investigation.
After reading these, for me 9/11 was allowed or ordered to happen.
A few questions below:
FBI/CIA/NSA
2. What agency obtained the photo of Atta at the ATM machine in rural Maine less than 48 hours after September 11th? Was Atta under surveillance? Where are the logs and records from the Boston FBI field office for the months June through September?
4. What is the name of the CIA operative who delivered Bin Laden to an American hospital in Dubai in July of 2001?
FAA
2. Why were these four planes able to evade all radar ? Even when the transponders are disconnected, a plane is still able to be located by its "skin" on radar screens.
Vice President Richard Cheney
7. Please explain your opposition to the creation of an independent commission to investigate 9/11 and your request that Senator Daschle quash an investigation.
http://www.rense.com/general25/ggg.htm
10. Were you given Cipro on the evening of September 11? If so, why?
“At least some White House personnel were given Cipro six weeks ago. White House officials won't discuss that, or who might be receiving the anthrax-treating antibiotic now…
On the night of the Sept. 11 attacks, the White House Medical Office dispensed Cipro to staff accompanying Vice President Dick Cheney as he was secreted off to the safety of Camp David, and told them it was a precaution, according to one person directly involved.” http://www.unansweredquestions.net/timeline/2001/ap102401.html
11. Please provide the names of anyone else who received Cipro in advance of the anthrax attacks.

America's role in the stability of globalisation reached a new level when in 1990 President George H. W. Bush declared the "new world order." His political rhetoric symbolized a) a notion of progress in United States history; b) a proclamation of American success in the battle against worldwide communism; and c) the global parameters by which America would now dictate its expansion. But the language also invoked something much older; an implication that America was embarking on a journey, bringing with it the terms of peace and prosperity that have been idolized in the United States since its conception.

Posted by: Starscream923 at May 10, 2004 10:09 PMWhile walking down the street one day, George "Dubya" Bush is struck
by a large wheel of cheese that had fallen out the cargo door of
SwissAir, flight 119. Sadly, George does not make it.
His soul arrives in heaven and he is met by St. Peter at the
Pearly Gates.
"Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in,
it seems there is a problem. We seldom see Republicans
around these parts, so we're not sure what to do with you."
"No problem, just let me in; I'm a believer," says Dubya.
"I'd like to just let you in, but I have orders from the Man Himself
He says you have to spend one day in hell and one day in heaven.
Then you must choose where you'll live for eternity."
"But, I've already made up my mind; I want to be in heaven."
"I'm sorry, but we have our rules." And with that, St. Peter
escorts him to an elevator and he goes down, down, down, all
the way to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle
of a lush golf course; the sun is shining in a cloudless sky, the
temperature a perfect 72 degrees. In the distance is a beautiful
clubhouse. There is a Texas-style barbecue featuring cloned cattle
and genetically engineered corn. Standing in the crowd are his dad
and thousands of other Republicans who had helped him out over
the years: Karl Rove, Rush Limbaugh, Dick Cheney, Jerry Falwell.
The whole of the "Right" is here, everyone laughing, happy;
casually but expensively dressed. They run to greet him, hug him,
and reminisce about the good times they had getting rich at expense
of tree huggers and liberals. They play a friendly game of golf,
then eat cheesecake made from genetically engineered milk.
The devil himself comes up to Bush with a frosty drink and says,
"Have a BGH milkshake and relax, Dubya!"
"Uh, I'm watching my weight," says George, sadly.
"This is hell, son. You can drink and eat all you want and not worry,
and it just gets better from here!" says Satan.
Dubya takes the shake and finds himself liking the devil, who is a
very friendly guy who tells funny jokes and pulls hilarious
nasty pranks, kind of like a Yale Skull and Bones brother with
real horns. They are having such a great time that, before he
realizes it, it's time to go. Everyone gives him a big hug and waves
as Bush steps on the elevator and heads upward.
When the elevator door reopens, he is in heaven again and St.Peter is
waiting for him. "Now it's time to visit heaven," the old man says,
opening the gate.
So for 24 hours Bush is made to hang out with a bunch of honest,
good-natured animal rights activists and anti-milk folk,
people who enjoy each other's company, talking about things other
than money, and treat each other decently. Not a nasty prank or
frat-boy joke among them; no fancy country clubs and, while the
broccoli and tofu tastes great, it's not steak. It's organic
soymilk shakes and veggie burgers. And these people are all poor;
he doesn't see anybody he knows, and he isn't even treated like
someone special!
Worst of all, to Dubya, Jesus turns out to be some kind of hippie
with his endless 'peace' and 'do unto others' jive.
Whoa," he says uncomfortably to himself, "Pat Robertson never prepared
me for this!"
The day done, St. Peter returns and says, "Well, then, you've spent a
day in hell and a day in heaven. Now choose where you want to live
for eternity."
With the 'Jeopardy' theme playing softly in the background,
Dubya reflects for a minute, then answers, "Well, I would never have
thought I'd say this--I mean, heaven has been delightful and all --
but I really think I belong in hell with my friends."
So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down,
all the way to hell.
The doors of the elevator open, and he finds himself in the middle of
barren, scorched earth covered with leaking 55-gallon drums of
Roundup-Ready herbicides, garbage and toxic industrial waste...kind
of like Gary, Indiana. He is horrified to see all of his friends
dressed in rags and chained together, picking up the industrial waste
with teaspoons, and putting it in black bags. They are groaning and
moaning in pain, faces and hands black with open sores, boils, and
sooty grime. Then Lucifer comes over to Bush and puts an arm around
his shoulder.
I don't understand," stammers a shocked Dubya. "Yesterday I was here
and there was a golf course and a clubhouse and we ate a Texas
barbecue. The cloned animals were tasty. We had a great time.
Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and everybody seems
miserable!"
The devil looks at him, smiles slyly, and purrs, "Yesterday we were
campaigning. Today you voted for us."

(3) The U.S. CIA funded the overthrow of a democratic government in Guatemala in the 1950's and supported an international human rights abuser pariah -- Rios Montt -- who was responsible for the death of hundreds of thousands of Guatemalans.
(4) The U.S. CIA was actively involved and funded the overthrow of the democratically-elected President of Chile in the 1970s, Allende, and replaced him with a horrific human rights abuser, Augusta Pinochet.
(5) The U.S. backed the dictator of Nicaragua, Somoza, and after the Sandinistas overthrew him backed the contras who destabilized and undermined the Sandinistas.

We know that the Führer who makes decisions knows better than most of us what war means....
We believe firmly that after our unparalleled generosity and will for peace, the Almighty will not withhold his blessings from our actions...
We believe that the Lord God, who did not allow us to perish after 1918, but rather gave us the Führer, will also be with us in the future. We will defeat our foreign enemies, just as we defeated our domestic enemies, Judah and the Treaty of Versailles. We have been victorious in the past because we were ... always willing to sacrifice, firmly confident of victory even in the darkest hour of greatest trial.

These events around the launch of the war tend to indicate that the White House knew that the truth of the California energy crisis was coming out and there was nothing that they could do about it but go to war to put blood and bombs on the air loud enough to quiet the questions that could lead to impeachment and the damaging of many federal officials that protected this massive never before equaled crime. Just ask yourself a question could 31 companies do this without having some form of legal and political protection? and what people would they need to protect them?

Rest assured that in our country such a person would soon be behind bars...
In war, man stands against man. Each serves the fatherland in his own way, and no soldier will deny the knightly convictions of a noble opponent. Today, however, a cowardly gang of professional agitators daily invents new lies and pictures from the safety of their desks.
Each of us knows what a crude and baseless lie this is. Every decent person in the world should have known this. And yet: "Some of it will always be believed, the stupid and gullible will never see through it all" — so hope the political liars and slanderers.
We know what to think about this flood of slander flowing over the German people. We heard the same things between 1914 and 1918. Then as now, they are attempting to drive a wedge between leaders and people. The goal of this propaganda is always the annihilation of Germany.
We are also familiar with the old lie about the desecration of churches and shrines, which are once again in fashion with our enemies.
In reality, these lies are ancient. Our enemies always babble about violated sanctuaries, persecuted priests, murdered children and tortured women in order to prejudice the world against Germany and to arouse the impression that the world must be defended against "the barbarians who are threatening human culture."
Not only Germany, but the whole world knows exactly what a decent, upright and good person this unpretentious soldier was.

If the Iraquis dragged Americans through the street, that does not justify us abusing human rights. Also, we MUST focus on our actions, because we can control OUR actions. Furthermore, we in the U.S. are hypocrites if it is true we are waging a war against Iraq because Sadaam Hussein's supporters were human rights abusers and anti-democratic. The focus on our human rights abuse of Iraquis belies that false claim of ours. Finally, our occupation of Iraq is as completely illegitimate as it continues to be completely illegal (as it has no legal basis).

If you check the NTSB report, you will see that the port engine was found along the flight path, 10 miles BEFORE the crash (It sure didn;t bounce back there). people reported F-16's following the aircraft. One of the cell phone callers from that plane, called from the lavatory and said she heard a pop on the left wing and saw smoke coming from the left wing. I remember hearing it on TV that day. Why is the fact that the fourth aircraft was shot down being covered up? PLEASE, look into this.

Hey Charlie!
First of all your country attacked a soverign nation without provocation.
Secondly, American soldiers are killing civilians indiscriminately. Also shooting the wounded. Now we find out about the torture chambers.
The level of hatred towards Americans in Iraq is indescribable.
The guys that got chopped, burned and hung on the bridge were hired mercinaries, not harmless civilian contract workers.
They have a free hand to kill indescriminately with little fear of prosecution.

GO HERE!!!
Army Lt. General William G. "Jerry" Boykin was nominated for a third star and named to a new position as deputy undersecretary of Defense for intelligence.
He was the Military Intelligence in charge of Abu Ghraib prison.
He is the religious FREAK who said in October that his god was bigger than their god and that we are fighting the devil. Yes. The freakin’ devil.
The BBC reported a transcript of a phone call made by Flight Attendant Madeline Amy Sweeney to Boston air traffic controls in which she gave the seat numbers occupied by the hijackers, and these seat numbers did not correspond with those of the men claimed by the FBI to be responsible for the hijacking.
CNN reported that the men who hijacked the aircraft used phony IDs containing the names of real people living in Arab nations in the middle east.
Even the FBI says there is no evidence to link the above men to the 9/11 hijackings.
So, one fact is apparent. If those who hijacked the 9/11 airplanes were using stolen identities, then we don't know who they were or who they worked for. We can't. It's impossible.
Now, people who are intending to commit suicide normally don't worry about whether anyone knows their real name, and it is here that some other odd aspects of this case take on a new meaning.
Because the IDs used by the hijackers were phony, we cannot know who they really were or who they really worked for. But what is apparent is that those who planned the hijackings and the 9/11 attacks went out of their way to leave plenty of clues pointing to citizens of middle eastern Arab nations.

Posted by: at May 10, 2004 10:48 PMSam and Janeane... I have no good political trash on Dennis Miller, but I do have a juicy personal tidbit...
A friend of mine dated Miller's ex-wife, who swore that Miller had a very, very, very, very, very, VERY tiny penis.
Which explains a lot, but that isn't the point of the story. Miller apparently used to like to walk around the house nude, and one day his wife caught him squatting naked in the kitchen, smashing a calculator with a hammer.
He evidently looked like nothing so much as one of the primates from the beginning of Kubrick's "2001", his tiny willy flipping hither and thither as he smashed to bits this calculator that had, for whatever reason, frustrated him to the point that his evolution began to unravel...

Ashcroft Flying High
WASHINGTON, July 26, 2001
In response to inquiries from CBS News over why Ashcroft was traveling exclusively by leased jet aircraft instead of commercial airlines, the Justice Department cited what it called a "threat assessment" by the FBI, and said Ashcroft has been advised to travel only by private jet for the remainder of his term.
"There was a threat assessment and there are guidelines. He is acting under the guidelines," an FBI spokesman said. Neither the FBI nor the Justice Department, however, would identify what the threat was, when it was detected or who made it.
A senior official at the CIA said he was unaware of specific threats against any Cabinet member, and Ashcroft himself, in a speech in California, seemed unsure of the nature of the threat.
"I don't do threat assessments myself and I rely on those whose responsibility it is in the law enforcement community, particularly the FBI. And I try to stay within the guidelines that they've suggested I should stay within for those purposes," Ashcroft said.
Asked if he knew anything about the threat or who might have made it, the attorney general replied, "Frankly, I don't. That's the answer."
Earlier this week, the Justice Department leased a NASA-owned G-3 Gulfstream for a 6-day trip to Western states. Such aircraft cost the government more than $1,600 an hour to fly. When asked whether Ashcroft was paying for any portion of the trips devoted to personal business, a Justice Department spokeswoman declined to respond.
All other Bush Cabinet appointees, with the exception of Interior and Energy with remote sites to oversee, fly commercial airliners. Janet Reno, Ashcroft's predecessor as attorney general, also routinely flew commercial. The secretaries of State and Defense traditionally travel with extra security on military planes.
The Justice Department insists that it wasn't Ashcroft who wanted to fly leased aircraft. That idea, they said, came strictly from Ashcroft's FBI security detail. The FBI had no further comment.

Wayne Madsen writes:
"Bush's blood lust, his repeated commitment to Christian beliefs, and his constant references to 'evil doers,' in the eyes of many devout Catholic leaders, bear all the hallmarks of the one warned about in the Book of Revelations - the anti-Christ. People close to the Pope claim that amid these concerns, the Pontiff wishes he was younger and in better health to confront the possibility that Bush may represent the person prophesized in Revelations...
“According to journalists close to the Vatican, the Pope and his closest advisers are also concerned that the ultimate acts of evil - the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon - were known in advance by senior Bush administration officials. By permitting the attacks to take their course, there is a perception within the Roman Catholic Church hierarchy that a coup d'etat was implemented, one that gave Bush and his leadership near-dictatorial powers to carry out their agenda. I came out to see her as soon as I could, and saw the wreakage of the Pentagon wall... I flew out there on a 757, and that hole in the wall wasn't even close to the size that plane would have caused.
For anyone who's curious, find some pictures of the Pentagon crash. Try to locate some wreakage. You won't find a wing, a fuselage, a landing gear, luggage, bodies (forgive me), or anything like that. But, just for fun, try to find ANYTHING that might have come from a plane.
Then notice that in the first pictures, the grass in front of the wall isn't even scorched. Fun stuff.

Hey! Feedback! Thanks, I live for feedback.
Posted by: Matt J at May 10, 2004 10:56 PMDennis Miller and the Shameful
Apologists for Erring Authority
What do men like Dennis Miller, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity have in common? They routinely suspend all sense of logic and defend the indefensible. It is the reactionary's version of irrational exhuberance.
It is a reflexive emotional response, so why do they do it? I believe they fear the rebuke of authority more than they love liberty, and so the so-called love of liberty that they profess is actually the converse argument for worshipping authority. El Rushbo comments on Abu Ghraib by saying that we are undergoing a feminization of our country. Well, I suspect one's perspective changes considerably when you're the one that's got the broom up your ass.
Now, even the Catholic church gave up on torture more than 200 years ago, and not because it was wrong, but because it doesn't yield the intended effect. The tortured person will tell you anything (even that they are a witch and had sex with the devil, for instance) to get you to stop. The info is unreliable at best according to sources both ancient and modern.
So this unconditional defense of the indefensible is a singular form of unexamined moral cowardice. Rush is willing to consent to and defend anything that authority says because he lacks the moral backbone to stand up and object to it. But here's where it gets interesting. Being that he fancies himself a pointy-headed pseudo-intellectual dandy, Rush must rationalize away his shameful moral cowardice lest the psychic dislocation overwhelm him with the realization that he isn't at all what he thinks he is, and so he congratulates himself on his courageous defense of authority and defers reflexively.
Unconditional support of the erring president is the first and last refuge of the moral apologist and coward.

Posted by: the truth at May 10, 2004 10:58 PMmore about polls
A while back I checked out Gallups site which was very informative about the pollig process.
According to them, once you poll 1000 people (selecting equal numbers from each defined ethnic, social, educational, geographical etc category)you can extrapolate the result to the entire US population--270 million?
As suggested in a previous post, how the questions are written has to be a major factor, the purpose of the poll frames the question.
The relevance of polls is also determined by how the results are presented to the public, and surely cannot one poll then influence another?
Do pollsters ever tell their respondents what the purpose of the poll is? Do they ever record if the repsondents find the questions or possible answers absurd or inadequate? Do they ever mention if the respondent gets distracted during the poll?
I mean really, how many people answer a poll about sex honestly?
How many polls historically have been correct?
I don't know, do you?
Dennis Miller makes a reference to some 70's TV show and then preens as if he had just quoted Vergil in the original.

By Elizabeth Jensen, Times Staff Writer
NEW YORK — Air America Radio's chairman and vice chairman resigned Thursday in the latest shake-up at the liberal radio network that launched five weeks ago.
Chairman Evan Cohen, the network's co-founder, who resigned along with vice chairman and investor Rex Sorensen, said he left for personal reasons.
"It was the right thing to do at the right time," he said. "Very few people thought this could get going, and obviously it has been proven," with what he called strong ratings in Portland, Ore., and New York. The network hasn't released audience figures.
Company President Jon Sinton told the Chicago Tribune, which first reported the departures, that Cohen resigned because other investors weren't happy with how he handled a financial dispute with affiliate stations in Los Angeles and Chicago, which resulted in the network's going off the air in those cities, with no replacements yet lined up.
The company, whose most prominent hosts are Al Franken and Janeane Garofalo, recently also lost co-founder and Chief Executive Mark Walsh and pushed out its head of programming. Air America also missed its payroll this week by one day, for what insiders called technical reasons. Sinton didn't return calls for comment.

Miller has always been an occasionally clever narcissist. That's why he is so pathetic now.

I invite you to stop by, say hi.

I invite you to post your URL only once. Why do you feel the need to list it 12 times or more in a row? Mimicking your Michael Jackson masturbatory sessions?

Posted by: at May 11, 2004 03:44 AMWe need to stop calling the right wing 'dangerous'. Dangerous is sexy, dangerous is cool.
We need to call them what they are: Bizarre, Crazy, Loony, Wacky, Unhinged, Unglued (take your pick).
We need to say it again and again in public and in private, until the label sticks.
